The weather could not have cooperated better for the weekend! This was the 4th year that the Tigers have participated in this tournament and it was one of their best showings yet! The Tigers first game against the Windsor Locks Warriors played to a scoreless 0-0 tie. More ... The Long Island United 96 Academy-Anfield boys, the academy team of the LIJSL, captured the Columbus Cup for the second straight year last weekend. The annual premier tournament is sponsored by the Brooklyn Italians soccer club and attracts major teams from the tri-state area. The United, ranked 22nd nationally, and 6th in Region 1, play in LIJSL U13 Division I. More ... Over the Columbus Day Weekend, the Garden City Patriettes U12 girls' soccer team participated in the 23rd Annual Paul R. Cody Columbus Day Tournament in Windsor, Connecticut. The weather was great, however the soccer was exceptional! On Saturday morning, the Patriettes began the tournament by playing the West Hartford Huskies. More ... Garden City resident Mark Staniszewski recently competed at the 2008 Pan American Games for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and returned home with two gold medals. The tournament, which is traditionally the largest and toughest of its kind in North America, was hosted for the first time ever in New York City on October 5th. More ... On a beautiful fall weekend, the Garden City Xtreme participated in the Paul R. Cody Columbus Day Soccer Tournament. About 20 teams from the Centennials were in Windsor, CT. for the weekend, playing soccer and spending time with their teammates and friends. The Xtreme played their 5 matches in the Poquonock Division, winning all five matches and out scoring their opponents 17-1. More ... The Thunder O'Connor 7s took their traveling road show down south again in a "Coffee and Bagels" 9:00am match up against East Rockaway. East Rockaway was in their traditional "dark no sugar" Raiders jerseys and the Thunder 7s were in there "light and sweet" all white uniforms. More ... The Garden City Thunder 8 Maroon squad improved to 4-0 with a hard fought 26-12 victory over East Rockaway Raiders under the "Friday Night Lights" at the GC Pool last week. The Maroon 8s went to the air early and often completing two TD passes and one pass for an extra point. More ... The Shooting Stars took on all comers this weekend at the traditional Windsor Ct Columbus Day Tournament. The Stars played great and finished the weekend tied for first place with a 4-0-1 record over the three days. The Stars demonstrated tremendous skills in their 4 wins over the weekend. Again, all of the wins were by shutout, giving the Stars a total of 8, yes that is 8 shutouts! More ... Garden City Basketball - The best game in town ! This past weekend was just right for the 23rd Annual Paul R. Cody Columbus Day Tournament in Windsor, CT. It was a perfect fall weekend to spend in New England. Congratulations to the Garden City Flames for winning Second Place. The Flames played against the Windsor Rage, the Suffield Wildcats, Farmington Celtic, the Windsor Locks Locks and our very own Garden City Destroyers. More ... The U-14 Garden City Thunderbolts coached by Bill Metzler had a respectable tournament over Columbus Day weekend and looked as if they were destined for glory after the first day when they won matches against the Weatherfield Wizards who just did not have enough tricks to win and the West Hartford Warriors who clearly "came out to play" but fell short. More ... "The U-10 Devils, coached by Sean McCarthy and assistant, Justin Quinn, had two wins and three loses in Windsor, CT. The team showed great determination and sportsmanship. This was their first away tournament. They enjoyed a great weekend, both on and off the field. All the U-10 teams enjoyed a pizza party and many laughs together on Saturday night. More ... On a cool Friday night the GC FIRE U9 took on the red hot Bayville Falcons under the lights at the community park. A few "seeing eye" base hits helped the Bayville squad jump to an early 4 -0 lead. In the bottom half of the second inning John Griffith earned a lead off walk for the FIRE and moved to second base on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Andrew Nagel. More ... Congratulations on a well earned first place finish, with a record of 5-0, with 13 goals for and 1 against. The boys gave a valiant effort in the first win against Granby, CT with timely goals by outside midfielder, Owen Fischer and striker, Kyle Bratton, whose brilliant passing set up the winning goal. Selected as the best and brightest from the college gridiron, The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced on October 1st the semifinalists for the 2008 Draddy Trophy, presented by HealthSouth, and the candidates for the 2008 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards. More ... The Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving team took on some very tough competition this past week against Sewanhaka but came out on top to keep their winning streak alive. Coach Anne Sullivan once again worked her magic to produce a winning combination utilizing the depth and versatility of the team. Weekday Clinic Information The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club will be opening their Fall season on Saturday September 6th. Girls play 9:00AM until 1:00PM and boys play from 1:00PM until 5:00PM (with the exception of Kindergarten and 1st grade). The program runs for eight consecutive Saturday's with the exception of October 11th (Columbus Day Weekend). More ... The Garden City Trojans Varsity Field Hockey team kept up their winning ways with a 6-0 victory over East Islip in a non league game on Saturday morning October 11th at GCHS. The Trojans are not only undefeated this season, the team has not allowed a single goal all season long. Lauren Terracciano led the Trojans' scoring with two goals. More ... On Friday afternoon, October 10th the boys JVA soccer team faced Great Neck North at GCHS. Following Garden City goals by Sean Bingham and John Tarzian the score remained tied at 2. However, a goal off the head of a Great Neck North player into the GNN goal, gave the Trojans the 3-2 victory. In goal for the Trojans was Thomas Johnson, making numerous saves. More ...
