Sarah Justvig, a senior at Sacred Heart Academy, has added to her long list of academic accomplishments by being named a semifinalist in the 54th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. From a pool of over 1.5 million high school seniors who took the PSAT in the fall of their junior year, Sarah is one of only 16,000 students nationwide who qualified for semifinalist status. In addition to her many outstanding scholastic achievements, Sarah has distinguished herself as an accomplished flutist and has been named an All-County Band Member. She is also an active member of Sacred Heart Academy's Instrumental and Chamber Ensembles, Math League, Varsity Tennis and Swim Teams. After school, Sarah commits a significant amount of her time volunteering with the Helen Keller Services for the Blind, the Garden City Athletic Association, and St. Anne's.

Sarah's recognition as a semifinalist came as no surprise to her guidance counselor at Sacred Heart, Mrs. Elizabeth Pfeifer-Servidio. "Sarah is exemplary in every way -- intellectually, musically, academically and socially." If Sarah advances to Finalist standing, she will be considered for a National Merit Scholarship this spring.
