Students Remember 9-11 With Acts of Kindness

2008-10-17 / School

Each Garden City Public School marked the seventh anniversary of 9-11 as deemed age appropriate for students by teachers and building administration. At Garden City Middle School, for example, students discussed the anniversary during Home Base, a daily meeting time for students. Pictured here with her sixth-graders are Alison Donner (standing, second from right), whose Home Base students chose to honor those fallen on 9-11 with acts of kindness, and Amanda Holleran (standing, far right), who assembled the students' acts of kindness pledges on a bulletin board outside of the middle school's library. After reading an article suggesting the acts of kindness project to their students, Mrs. Donner and Ms. Holleran guided the activity for the sixth-graders, helping them to empathize with the events of September 11, 2001 and honor lives lost by completing their individual acts of kindness.
