Garden City Retired Men's Club Calendar Of Events

The Garden City Retired Men's Club is a non-profit membership organization formed in April 1961 for the purpose of providing educational and recreational activities for the retired male senior citizens of the Garden City Community. The organization is non-sectarian and non-political.

All retired men 55 years or older residing in the Incorporated Village of Garden City, in the state of New York are eligible for membership upon paying a five (5) dollar initiation fee. If you are eligible and interested to join us, please come by. Every Monday is Open House. Or call Joe Leto at 248-9022.

The Club House facility is located at No. 6 Golf Club Lane (directly behind Lord & Taylor parking lot). The building is open every day of the week, except Friday, and offers two regulation size pool tables, television, cards/table board games as well as outdoor bocce, horseshoes and shuffleboard. Our Program Committee is planning a very active speaker program. Come join us!

Retired Men's Club Lunch Program

Thursday, October 30th Pizza Party ($6.00 plus $2.00 for lucky bucks). Drinks are on the house . Come at 12 noon. Sip a little non-alcoholic beverage while we wait for the 12:30 p.m. arrival of the food. then relax and enjoy the pizza and the pleasant company of your fellow retirees. What better way to spend a quiet afternoon.

Kathleen Rice

Monday, October 20th at 1 p.m. Ms. Kathleen Rice, Nassau County District Attorney, will speak to our membership. Kathleen Rice is the first woman elected to District Attorney in Long Island's history. She is a graduate of Garden City High School, returning to the community that raised her. As a former Assistant United States Attorney under Attorney General Janet Reno, Kathleen Rice prosecuted cases of corporate fraud, deadbeat parents and public corruption, as well as federal drug and gun cases. Corporate fraud is one of the most discussed subjects of our time. you cannot afford to miss this!!!

Chess Will Be An Option

We're on our way to a chess program. Opening day will be Tuesday October 7th at 12:30 - 1 p.m. Interested? Just show up. If you have an old chess set/board, bring it along. A short brush-up course by Walter Tomitz and off we'll go. If you are interested, please call Walter Tomitz at 354-0519 or Joe Leto at 248-9022 to register.

Calling All Poker Players

The Monday poker session is underway. A small group is enjoying a few hours of friendly poker. If you have an interest to spend a pleasant afternoon with a congenial bunch of poker players, we have a game waiting for you. A poker table will be set up on Monday for your playing pleasure. Come in and give it a go.

Bocce Courts Are Ready, Shuffleboard Lanes Have Been Striped And Are Ready For You

First round bocce matches should be complete. The weather is still pleasant. The courts are open for your tossing pleasure. Pick a partner, throw a few practice balls and enjoy the day...

It's Flu Shot Time Again

Don't forget to get your flu shot (and pneumonia shot if you need it). Flu shots will be available at the Golf Club Lane Center on Tuesday, December 9th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Just call 465-4075 after Monday, November 10th to put your name on the list. If you have a problem finding a flu shot location, call Joe Leto 248-9022.

Merchant Marine Academy Lunches On The Back Burner

Wednesday, November 12th is the day selected for our first visit to the Merchant Marine Academy lunch program. The menu will feature Irish Lamb Stew, boiled potatoes and seasonal vegetables. (There will be other entrée choices also). A few minor details remain. We will resolve them and keep you informed. One thing we have settled is no buses. We will carpool.
