Thunder 11's Borges
Brian Colamussi being congratulated after game tying touchdown!
It was a dreary and soaked fall day at the Stewart field where the Thunder was excited about the challenge of playing a very tough Long Beach Bulldog team. The boys from Garden City had a good week of practice and seemed to be ready for the big game. Long Beach won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball and had a very good kickoff return putting our defense back on their heels. Our defense fought hard but the tough Bulldogs were able to score a touch down to take a 6 - 0 lead. This was the first time all season that our team had fallen behind an opponent, it would be critical that our boys respond appropriately when our offense hit the field. As expected, our offense took the ball and drove straight down the field to tie the score with a touch down pass from James Sullivan to Brian Colamussi and then take the lead with the extra point by Liam Byrnes. All this was made possible by our big boys up front on the line (Darius Iraj, Jack Murtagh, Justin Holloway, Brian Goulard, Matt Esposito, Chris Mosciatiello, Daniel Krum, Kevin Sprotte and Conor Muldoon). After a couple of adjustments, our defense stiffened and really shut down the Bulldogs for the rest of the game led by Luke Armstrong, Liam Byrnes, Colin Castro, Lucas D'Aversa, Jutin Samardich, Patrick Slovensky, Ben Walsh, Matias Yianatos, James Sullivan, Brian Colamussi, Brian Goulard, Justin Holloway and Matt Borges. The Thunder took the lead 13 - 6 going into halftime on a strong effort by James Sullivan following his Big Boys up front! We received the second half Kick off and held the ball for nearly the whole third quarter using our powerful running game to take the lead 19 - 6. Our defense again continued to completely shut down the offense of the Bulldogs in the second half allowing only 2 first down the rest of the day and keeping the Bulldogs very far from our goal line! That moves our record to 4 - 0 heading into a rematch of last years playoff game with the Inwood Buccaneers this Sunday at Inwood Park at 3 PM. GO THUNDER!!!!!!!
