GC Thunder 7's Go Toe To Toe vs. Uniondale
GC Defense shuts down the run for no gain
The rain was coming down hard through a dark overcast sky this past Saturday morning as the Garden City Moscatiello 7 year old team faced the Knights of Uniondale. The Knights were decked out in black pants, back helmets and white jerseys with the GC Thunder wearing the traditional Maroon home jersey's and white pants.
Both teams went through their pre-game warm ups in the driving rain and presto, just as the game was about to begin the rain stopped and it became a crisp fall day, perfect for a good old fashion football slugfest.
Uniondale took possession of the ball first and faced the "The Maroon Crush" defense. The boys from GC executed the defensive game plan to perfection; our defensive line was getting deep penetration from Steven Haas, Collin Plunkett, Campbell Munn, Kyle Merritts, Christian Genussa and Brian Boland. With nowhere to run up the middle it forced the Uniondale backfield to try the outside but containment was outstanding led by Defensive Ends Joe Atherall, Joe Scattareggia, Cornerbacks Jackson Bautch, Nick Rosato, Brady Sullivan and Safety Steven Moscatiello. With consistent outside containment the speedy Uniondale backs had nowhere to run!
Hard fought battle in the trenches
"Hey Diddle Diddle there's a run up the Middle"...On Garden City's first possession the offense quickly scored with a fantastic 50 yard run up the middle for a touchdown. Line blocking was flawless with holes being opened up by Reece Hungerford, Albert Severini, Aidan Pfaff, Angelo Demiris, Kevin LeBlanc, Tim Curran and TJ Schmitt.
The backfield ran aggressively against a very tough Knights defense. Harry Murphy, Steve Baymack and Tyler Sandoval carried the ball and ran for hard fought yards all game long.
This focused and disciplined group of boys who are learning the values of being good teammates and working as a team will play this Friday Night at Community Park vs. Baldwin beginning at 6:00pm. Please come see this group as they continue to improve each and every week in their inaugural season of Thunder Football.
Go Thunder!!!!
