Spirits Soar For Pep Rally & Homecoming
In perfect sync, the varsity kick line team performed its high-stepping routine at the Pep Rally and during the halftime show at the Homecoming football game against Long Beach.
Rain was no deterrent for the overwhelming school spirit which marked Garden City High School's Pep Rally and Homecoming on September 26th and 27th. The entire high school student body, faculty and staff gathered for the annual Homecoming Pep Rally on Friday, September 26th in the gymnasium where all of the teams were introduced and school spirit soared even higher than the incredible heights achieved by the varsity cheerleading squad during their performance of impressive pyramid lifts.
The Trojan mascot led cheers and paraded through the crowd during the team introductions and performances by the kick line, varsity cheerleaders and even a rousing rendition of "YMCA" by the high school's own costumed Village People faculty members. The Homecoming King and Queen, Chris Gold and Sarah D'Antonio, were selected by the Class of 2009 from this year's list of nominees, crowned, and officially presented to the student body at the assembly. Senior class nominees for Homecoming King were Chris Gold, Evan Nader, Mike Lind, Mike Regan and Pierce Bradley; Homecoming Queen nominees were Sarah D'Antonio, Dorthy Niemira, Colleen Miller, Allyson Maclay and Megan Walters.
Newly crowned Homecoming King, Chris Gold, and Queen, Sarah D'Antonio, were presented to the student body at Friday's Pep Rally.
On Saturday, although the Homecoming Parade was cancelled due to the weather, the Trojans played their first game against Long Beach, ultimately winning by a score of 40 - 12, in front of an enthusiastic crowd of fans and high school alumni. Halftime festivities, presided over by the Homecoming King and Queen and their court, included performances by the marching band, cheerleaders and kick line.
"I would like to thank everyone who made Homecoming 2008 a huge success!" commented high school Principal Nanine Cuttitta. "Our students and teachers made our annual Pep Rally an event not to be missed! Thanks to our football team for the big win, our kick line, cheerleaders and marching band for not allowing the rain to dampen the Trojan spirit!...and to all of our fans for their support."
Each varsity team was introduced at the September 26th Pep Rally. Here senior captain Amanda Keller, proudly indicates that the Varsity Girls Field Hockey team is going for its third New York State championship this season, having won the Nassau County championship for 13 straight years. Amanda has been on varsity since her freshman year and was named to All State last year.
