Spirits Soar For Pep Rally & Homecoming
      Rain was no deterrent for the overwhelming school spirit which marked Garden City High School's Pep Rally and Homecoming on September 26th and 27th.

On The Road To Ripken
      On Friday, September 12th, the Long Island Lightning U10 baseball team, comprised of a dozen talented and dedicated players from Garden City and East Williston, went to Aberdeen, Maryland to participate in the Patriot's Day Tournament, which is part of the 2008 Ripken Baseball Tournament Series.

U-12 GC Warriors vs. RVC Final Score 0-0
      The GC Warriors met up with the RVC Pride on Sat. Oct. 4th. The evenly matched teams traded several good scoring opportunities throughout the game, but the game remained scoreless throughout. GC goalie Owen Fisher, who remained in the net the entire game, made one spectacular play after another to keep RVC from putting one on the scoreboard.

Trojans JV Football Rolls to 52nd Consecutive Win
      The last time that Garden City's JV football team lost a game, many of it's current players were in 2nd grade. That was back on November 10, 2001 against the Hewlett Bulldogs. Since then the Trojans have won 52 consecutive games, including their latest 50-0 win over Jericho last Saturday.

Garden City Centennial Soccer Club Weekday Clinic Information
      The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club will be opening their Fall season on Saturday September 6th. Girls play 9:00AM until 1:00PM and boys play from 1:00PM until 5:00PM (with the exception of Kindergarten and 1st grade). The program runs for eight consecutive Saturday's with the exception of October 11th (Columbus Day Weekend). The season ends on November 1st.

Gold Medal Winner
      Derek Mangi, from Garden City, won the gold medal in his division at the Pan American Games Juijitsu tournament held on October 4th at the Nat Holman Gymnasium on 138th Street in Manhattan. Mangi, competing in the Purple Belt heavyweight division, submitted all three of his opponents.

Girl's Summer Lacrosse League: A Great Success!
      In the first ever Garden City Summer Girls' Lacrosse League, there were great accomplishments both on and off the field. Approximately one hundred and fifty girls from Garden City, Floral Park, East Meadow, Rockville Centre, Manhasset, and Port Washington participated in a six-week summer lacrosse league held at St. Paul's.

GC Thunderbolts Edge Terryville
      The U-14 Thunderbolts are back on track again as they won their second game in a row last Sunday. An artful header by Matt Greco clipped the left post before hitting the back of the net in the first half. Throughout the game, Marc Schwendenmann, Nick Angora, Brian Pratt, Danny McCabe, Jack Metzler and Jake Menges kept the pressure on their opponents with offensive barrages.

GC U10 Shooting Stars Score Another Victory
      The Shooting Stars continued their winning ways with another shutout victory, a 3-0 win over a tough Manhasset squad. Bridget Shea led the scoring this week with two goals. In the first half, Bridget scored on a perfectly placed penalty kick and in the second half Bridget showed great skills worked on in practice to score her second goal.

U10 Wildcats Defeat Farmingdale
      The Garden City Wildcats won their 5th straight game last Saturday as they defeated the Farmingdale Shamrocks by the score of 5-2 at St. Paul's. The Wildcats have been an offensive machine during this inaugural season and they proved relentless once again.

Patriettes Battle Stony Brook
      Last weekend the Garden City U12 Patriettes took on the Stony Brook Elite in a LIJSL contest. The two teams had met in the summer in the East Meadow Covanta tournament and had a very competitive match. This week's match started with both teams working hard to try to get that always important first goal.

      The rain was coming down hard through a dark overcast sky this past Saturday morning as the Garden City Moscatiello 7 year old team faced the Knights of Uniondale. The Knights were decked out in black pants, back helmets and white jerseys with the GC Thunder wearing the traditional Maroon home jersey's and white pants.

Thunder 11's Borges
      It was a dreary and soaked fall day at the Stewart field where the Thunder was excited about the challenge of playing a very tough Long Beach Bulldog team. The boys from Garden City had a good week of practice and seemed to be ready for the big game. Long Beach won the coin toss and elected to receive the ball and had a very good kickoff return putting our defense back on their heels.

      The Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving team keep their winning streak alive with a win against Great Neck South this past Friday. The team was down 39-36 mid-point but rallied to win the meet 103-80.

Trojans Play To 2-2 Tie Against Mineola
      The Mineola Mustangs boys varsity soccer team traveled to Garden City to take on the Trojans on Friday afternoon, October 3rd. The teams had already played each other once this season, with Garden City winning 1-0. Mineola scored first on a goal by Joe Lee. Garden City tied it up on a goal by James Mignon, off an assist from his brother, Will.

GCAA Still Accepting Sign Ups For Intramural Basketball
      GCAA is still accepting sign ups for 2008-2009 GCAA Intramural Basketball Season. The season will start in early December and run thru mid March. The application can be downloaded from the GCAA website www.gc-aa.com and clicking on the basketball link. The fee for grades K-1 is $30 and 2nd thru 8th is $60.

Girls Soccer Plays South Side
      Garden City's girls varsity soccer team played a hard fought match against the South Side Cyclones on Tuesday afternoon, October 7th. South Side's Emma Kriss scored in the 20th minute to give the Cyclones a first half 1-0 lead. GC's Ashley Pratt was superb in goal making many key saves to keep the game close.

Trojans Rout Jericho, Host Hewlett Saturday By Jake White
      Last Saturday for the first time ever, Garden City High's football team played Jericho. It was an odd match-up of one of the most successful scholastic programs in Nassau County against one of the least. The Jayhawks' 4-4 2007 record had earned them a seventh seed and a tougher schedule.

Garden City FIRE Baseball Rolls on into October
      Under the lights on a damp cool fall night, the U9 FIRE baseball team squared off against LSW Red this past weekend. LSW jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first and it would have been an even bigger lead if not for the outstanding catch in centerfield by Kenny McCadden to get the third out. The FIRE fought back hard in the bottom of the first.
