At their annual fire prevention day and open house, the Garden City Fire Department unveiled a new, state of the art, fire extinguisher training simulator that was obtained though a grant by New York State Senator, and Garden City resident, Kemp Hannon. The BullsEye training simulator represents the latest advancement in fire training technology. The simulator senses where the user aims and sweeps a laser training extinguisher and automatically varies LED driven digital flames in response. This allows the trainees to learn how to effectively use a fire extinguisher without the cost and clean-up associated with using dry chemical or CO2 extinguishers. The unit provides clean, safe and effective training to firefighters as well as civilians. The unit has a high tech control unit that can vary the settings and evaluate performance.

Chief James Meehan was grateful for the grant by Senator Hannon and noted that "Senator Hannon has always been a supporter of the fire service and recognizes our evolving world and changing needs." He continued, "We are very grateful for his support and helping us obtain this training aid which will get extensive use." The unit was successfully utilized by many village residents during the open house activities.
