Asst. DA To Speak On Teenage Drinking

Assistant District Attorney Maureen McCormick As part of the Sunday Forum Series at the Garden City Community Church, Nassau County Assistant District Attorney Maureen McCormick will present "Choices and Consequences," a program on drinking, driving, and serving alcohol to minors. The program will be held at the Garden City Community Church on Sunday, October 12, 2008, at 9:15 a.m.

Ms. McCormick is the Chief of Vehicular Crimes in the Nassau County District Attorney's Office in New York. She has been a prosecutor since 1986 and has specialized in vehicular crimes prosecution for the last 13 years. She has completed training in Accident Reconstruction, Standardized Field Sobriety Testing and Crash Data Retrieval. Ms. McCormick is responsible for the investigation and supervision of vehicular crimes in Nassau County. She tries high profile vehicular cases and lectures to various law enforcement agencies, prosecutors and hospital associations. She is a member of several traffic safety committees and is also a contributing author of the New York State DWI Trial Manual and the Vehicular Homicide Manual. Ms. McCormick is the recipient of a number of awards including a MADD Award of Appreciation, a NHTSA Public Service Award, the National Traffic Safety Award for Prosecutors and New York State Prosecutor of the Year.

The program this Sunday is a shortened version of on being brought by District Attorney Kathleen Rice to Nassau County's High Schools. The Choices and Consequences program is an interactive high school presentation designed to combat drunk, drugged and reckless driving. The District Attorney's goal is to reduce injuries and deaths in this most vulnerable age group. Traffic crashes are the number one cause of death for young people between the ages of 15 and 24.

The Garden City Community Church is part of the United Church of Christ and is an Open & Affirming congregation.
