Serious Auto Accident

Nassau County and Garden City Police responded to a serious motor vehicle accident that occurred in Garden City on Tuesday October 7 at 5:35 a.m.

According to police, the 49 year-old male victim from Glen Cove was operating his 1990 Honda Civic northbound on Clinton Road in the vicinity of Pine Street when it was struck head on by a 2008 Toyota Highlander, which was traveling, southbound on Clinton Avenue. The Highlander was being operated by Manuel A. Quinteros-Melndz, 35, of Hempstead.

The victim had to be extricated from his vehicle by the GC Fire Dept and the NCPD Emergency Services. He was transported to Winthrop University Hospital, Mineola and was listed in stable condition with multiple fractures.*

Quinteros-Melndz was also transported to Winthrop Hospital with minor injuries and was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd Degree, Vehicular Assault 2nd Degree and Driving While Intoxicated.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is ongoing. The GCPD and NCPD Homicide Division are awaiting the results of the blood tests of the arrested subject to determine possible additional charges.
