Continuing Education's Kayak Nature Trip
Paddling through the wetlands of the South Shore in kayaks while listening to a naturalist explain the life of a snowy egrets or a cormorant is what 18 outdoor enthusiasts took part in on Saturday, September 20th. Garden City's Continuing Education program sponsored a trip for novice and advanced kayak paddlers to a little visited part of Long Island that many motorists drive over when taking the Meadowbrook or Loop Parkways to Long Beach or Jones Beach - the wetlands. "This virtually untouched estuary is filled with wildlife that few people are aware of, including many species of birds, turtles, and fish. The valuable role of the wetlands can best be witnessed first hand by paddling in a kayak and getting to eye level with the wildlife." said Doug Sheer, coordinator of GC Continuing Education. Another such trip is planned for the spring.
