Resurrection and the Life, a multi-site church with locations in Garden City and Old Westbury, have added Vicar Justin Vetrano to their pastoral staff. Following official installation ceremonies, held recently at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection's Garden City location, Vicar Vetrano has begun various ministry assignments. One of his key projects includes starting new ministries and services at Resurrection's second location on Jericho Tpke., named "The Life."
"As we plant the Life, we will focus on building community," Vetrano said. "We'll be planting the seeds of life that we pray will grow into a community of faith. The focus on relationships is key. A church is not an insular, exclusive community. This truth opens our doors, our hearts and our minds to all people."
Vicar Vetrano's vision for the Life is a community of people who are committed to building relationships through service in the community, a vibrant variety of worship opportunities, and a strong focus on caring for all aspects of God's creation--the earth, the heart, the mind, and the soul. As a vicar, Vetrano will continue through the final stages toward ordination into pastoral ministry.
Rev. Jeff Browning, pastor at Resurrection, noted, "Justin is an incredibly gifted communicator who has a knack for connecting with people. I am thrilled to have someone with his talent, vision, and genuine enthusiasm on our ministry team."
Justin Vetrano has been working in youth and family ministries for the past 14 years. Prior to coming to Resurrection, he worked 10 years developing comprehensive programs with the youth and families at St. James Lutheran Church on Long Island that have grown to serve hundreds of youth and families several times per week. He led over 350 volunteers for over two months in the recovery efforts in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. Justin's ministry extends around the world as he has led groups in mission and ministry to Germany, Ethiopia, India, and most recently Nicaragua. He has a true heart for building bridges between those in the developed world and those who live in the third world.
The building and location of The Life provide many opportunities to reach out to the surrounding community. The Life is already the home of programs open to the community including a Preschool, Vacation Bible School, and the monthly preparation of a hot meal for clients of the North Shore INN, in Glen Cove. A Homework Help program to provide tutoring to local students has also begun.
The Life, located at One Old Westbury Road on the northeast corner of Jericho Turnpike, is a new opportunity for people to explore the Christian faith. Registration for The Life Preschool is also now underway. For more information about Resurrection and The Life, please call 516-333-3355, or visit www.resgc.org .
