Bendary and Ventre Storm In In a classic hard nose football game at GCAA Stewart Field last Sunday The Lictra Thunder 9's prevailed over a very tough Baldwin Bomber team. The Thunder Defense continued their remarkable performance this season by repeatedly stopping an explosive Baldwin offense in the Red Zone. The Thunder offense did their part and put two touchdowns on the Board against a very physical Baldwin defense.

The aggressive Thunder D forced key turnovers and had numerous sacks throughout the game. They demonstrated relentless pursuit and powerful team gang tackling all day. Whenever their backs were against the wall, they came up big. Tremendous job by the entire defense unit of Zembroski, Wortmann, Salsberg, Pappas, Murphy, Mixon, Lawson, Halvatzis, Gormley, Blair and Bendary.

The offense came out smoking against a sizeable but quick Baldwin defense. G.C. took control of the line of scrimmage from the first snap, grinding out the yards with some vintage smash mouth football. The boys took a well earned but fragile 6-0 lead into the half time break.

The team fell behind 7-6 in the second half. Just like their defensive counterparts, the Thunder Offense got the job done under pressure. They came up big and put another six on the Board when they had to have it. That gave Garden City a five point lead. That offensive effort was followed by still another phenomenal display of defense with Baldwin threatening to score in the closing minutes until G.C. pounced on a fumble and then ran out the clock. Final - Garden City Thunder 12, Baldwin Bombers 7.

Once again, many boys played more than one position and deserve tremendous credit all the way around. Next week it is "Saturday Night Lights" for the boys as they take their unblemished 3-0 record to Bellmore to play the Braves at 6:00 PM.
