FIRE receive some in game instruction
FIRE receive some in game instruction The wet weather couldn't stop the match up of Garden City FIRE U9 Baseball Team verse the LIAS Sharks on Saturday 9/27/08. Great pitching, delivered by Brendan McGuire and Patrick Iorio, was paired with the tough defensive catching of Daniel Salsberg and Kenny McCadden. The FIRE played outstanding defense early in the game featuring the solid play of Thomas Gillespie and John Schlatter at first base; 2nd baseman Kyle Ober; Short Stops Andryw Nagel and Quinn Walsh; 3rd basemen John Griffith and Jack Kenny. Their play shut down rallies and prevented the Sharks from scoring in the second and third innings. With bases loaded Cole Flynn drove two runs home, giving FIRE a 2-1 lead. Between excellent hitting, daring baserunning and timely bunting the FIRE expanded their lead to 3-1 by the third inning. In the fourth the Sharks rallied to tie the game at 3-3 but Christopher Kiley's throw to 1st for an out and Richard Marooney's throw to home to end the fourth inning were right on target and kept the game tied. FIRE battled hard but the Sharks bats came alive in the fifth, giving the FIRE their first loss of the season.
