GC Flash Remain Undefeated

Another Win
Another Win The U-11 Garden City Flash continue their Fall 2008 Cinderella Season and as they continue to be undefeated in Division One Fall 2008 season games. Not only are they unbeaten, but thus far they have not been scored upon in their regular season games thanks to incredible defensive play and meticulous net keeping.

After their debut first place Covanta Tournament pre-season performance, the Flash have blanked each and every opponent with inspiring shutouts. One by one, the Flash picked off POB, Levittown, Plainedge and Wantagh-Seaford. The girls from Garden City shined against Plainedge as Kerry Defliese opened the scoring with a penalty kick, then lightening fast Katie Muldoon scored unassisted and Nicole Leto fed Defliese for the 3-0 final goal. They followed that performance last Saturday at Soccer Park in Plainview as they used their incredible passing and give and go skills to dominate Wantagh Seaford. With Grace Cameron and Tianna Biscone sidelined with injuries, the team really stepped up to fill the void. Kerry Defliese was a scoring machine once again. When her first shot missed off an artful pass by Katie Muldoon, Kerry took a second bite of the apple to score on her own rebound. First half net keeper Nicole Leto also put one between the pipes in the second half off a well timed feed from Michaela Bruno.

Chloe Stapleford On Defense
Chloe Stapleford On Defense With a convincing 5-0 win, it would be easier to list who did not have an assist or a goal! Isabel Klatt, Emily O'Neil, Catherine Galzerano and Chloe Stapleford all gave 110% effort as they schooled their opponents in triangular passing style and knowing precisely when to pull the trigger to the chagrin and frustration of the talented Wantagh-Seaford net keeper. Kelly Aneser, Nicole Derby and Katie Muldoon likewise kept the pressure on throughout the game. Julia McGuire did what she does best and beat the opposition to the ball each and every chance that she had. Zero mistakes were posted to the shutout keepers, Nicole Derby and Nicole Leto. What a combo!

On Sunday, the Flash played their first State Cup game against Island Trees. Cameron was still sidelined but the word is that her physical therapy is going well and she should be back in the lineup soon. Tianna Biscone was back in action and an absolute beast on defense in the first half and on offense in the second half. The flash felled the Trees like a bunch of axe-wielding lumberjacks scoring half a dozen goals in the first ten minutes of the first half.

Catherine Galzerano Corner Kick
Catherine Galzerano Corner Kick The merciful Flash coaches had them put on a passing clinic for one and all as scoring opportunities were foregone and Garden City passed the ball from the front of their opponent's net all the way back to their keeper and back to the Island Trees net over and over again for the remainder of the first half and the entire second half.

The Flash have a some tougher opponents in the following weeks as they face Massapequa, then off to the Windsor Tournament (known to most Hartford natives and the Garden City Columbus Weekend Invasion) and the revered Albertson Squad in late October.

Will the Flash remain un-scored upon? Probably not, but one never knows. Will the Flash remain undefeated? The odds are unlikely given the competition, but these girls certainly have the tools to do so and they really do play like a cohesive team unit. Win or lose, they have proven to their parents, their coaches and most importantly to themselves that they are hard workers, very talented and they are winners. Let's beat the odds. Go Flash!
