David A. Rex David Austin Rex , beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on September 5, 2008 in Katy, TX. He was born on October 10, 1939 in St. Louis, MO to Vivian and Clarence Rex. He was a proud resident of Harris County since 1967 and has lived in Katy since 1982. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Woodruff Rex, to whom he was married for 44 years, his sister Margaret Rex Rasweiller, and his brother Gerald B. Rex. He was the proud father of Chrystyna Jean Jeter and husband Michael, David Austin Rex, Jr. and Alan Bartlett Rex and wife Megan. He was the devoted grandfather to Madison Rush Rex, Abigail Elizabeth Vivian Rex, Emma McKinney Rex, and Alexander Michael Rex. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and business associates. David earned his BA from the College of Wooster in Wooster, OH, and his MBA from the University of Utah. He retired from the United States Air Force as a Major after 21 years of dedicated service. During his distinguished military career, he was awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Meritorious Service Medal, and Air Force Commendation Medal with cluster. He held two Squadron Commander positions, and his foreign service included Japan, Viet Nam, England, and Germany. He was also a graduate of Squadron Officer's School, Air Command and Staff College, Air War College, and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. David was a member of the Boy Scouts of America for more than 50 years during which he was awarded the Silver Beaver Award and the Vigil Honor of the Order of the Arrow. He was a member of Holy Covenant Church in Katy, TX. He was a President of the J.R. Woodruff Company in Houston. He also served as a Lt. Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol and as a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. A graveside memorial was held at the Houston National Cemetery on Tuesday, September 9, followed by a memorial service at Holy Covenant Church. Doris W. McGowan Doris Wearne McGowan, 91, died September 19, 2008, of natural causes at RiverMead Retirement Community, her home since 1996. She was surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren. She was born in Binghamton on November 11, 1916, the daughter of Angie (Robinson) and Raymond G. Wearne. She graduated from Skidmore College in 1939 and served as a psychiatric social worker in Brooklyn, New York, until marrying John E. McGowan, M.D., her husband of 36 years. After raising four children, she worked as a real estate agent and licensed broker in Garden City for many years. Her husband died in 1977. She is survived by her four children, John E. McGowan, Jr., and his wife Linda Kay McGowan of Atlanta, Georgia; Doris Flynn and her husband Christopher Flynn of Dublin, New Hampshire; Eleanore Adelman of Tucson, Arizona; and Maureen Beattie and her husband Raymond Beattie of Longmeadow, Massachusetts; 12 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Eleanore Wearne Holderman of Orange, California. A memorial celebration was held at RiverMead on September 20; burial was at Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, New York, on September 24.
