Knights Present Paddy Noonan
Welcome to a wonderful program of lively Irish song, laughter and dance titled "A Musical Taste of Ireland," at 1:30 P.M. on Sunday, Nov. 30 brought to you by "Msgr. John's Knights" i.e. Msgr. John C. Seidenschwang Council, Knights of Columbus in Saint Anne's parish. It will be held in McCloskey auditorium with entrance adjacent to Saint Anne's Church at New Hyde Park Road and Dartmouth Street. The show will benefit the Msgr. John's Knights Catholic high school scholarship grants program. . Tickets are $25 each and may be ordered by calling 516-352-2457. McCloskey Auditorium, in recent years, has witnessed a revival of pre-Christmas Irish shows attracting sold-out audiences and critics_ raves. The pioneer producer of earlier shows visiting McCloskey in the '70's and 80's was a youthful band-leader: Paddy Noonan. He has since become a legendary figure in Irish dance music, the original founder of Rego Irish Records, a pioneer in musical vacation journeys in the U.S. and abroad and, more recently, the creator of this fast-paced stage production. Laughter is a precious ingredient of Irish stage productions, so Paddy has hired Glasgow Scotland's Eddie Devine, one of the funniest men on the comedy scene today. The continuing response to his original brand of side-splitting, clean humor, preserved on his debut recording, "The Devine Comedy", has been overwhelming. Sharing female vocalist honors on this Sunday afternoon will be Mary O'Dowd and Erin Quill. Mary is a native New Yorker raised in Phoenix, Arizona. She has appeared on TV in Canada and the U.S. with Tommy Makem, The Clancy Brothers and the Irish Rovers. She has also performed at Carnegie Hall, Westbury Music Fair and Joseph Papp's Public Theatre. Erin Quill, accomplished singer, comedienne, and graduate of Carnegie Mellon U. with a BFA in Music performance, has performed with Paddy for several years, introduced as A Little Irish Girl from Longs Island, to the sheer delight of audiences Paddy has proven his knack for picking the finest talent time after time. For more than a decade, Brian Hunter was soloist and arranger for the famed Welch Chorale . He was the featured singer at a most memorable tribute to Ireland's immortal, John McCormack at Carnegie Hall. Meet one of America's better Irish tenors! The spectacular Irish Championship Step Dancers and the accompanying beat of the brilliant Tommy Mulvihill band will, as Paddy Noonan might say, "have your toes tappin', hands clappin' and a smile on each and every face." Order your tickets early! Get a chance, at no extra charge, to win the Grand Prize of $25,000 cash or one of 12 other prizes totaling $25,000 cash in the New York State K of C "C&B" program, To participate, ticket order must be received by Friday, Nov. 8, 2008.
