Residents Turn Their Backs On AvalonBay
After reviewing the Mayor's Committee report and listening to AvalonBay's presentations, these residents turn their backs on the AvalonBay plan. The group is representative of a larger group that is decidedly against the plan being proposed by this for-profit developer and against the giveaway of "our" Garden City property. A group of residents, your neighbors, got together at St. Paul's last weekend to show their "rejection" of the AvalonBay proposal to redevelop St. Paul's. This was a spur-of-the-moment idea, but as you can see about 60 residents came out. This group represents the feelings of other Garden City residents, who expressed that, if they had gotten word, they would have been there to turn their backs and say "No Way AvalonBay." Anyone wishing to join these residents by sporting the "No Way AvalonBay" t-shirt or putting a magnet on their car expressing the same can request these items by emailing gcneighbors@yahoo.com. Your neighbors just ask, if possible, that at the time you receive your shirt and magnet, a small donation is given to cover costs. Offer available while supply lasts! This article was submitted by a coalition of community groups that is opposed to the AvalonBay plan. The GC Neighbors Coalition plans to be at the soccer fields at St. Paul's on Saturday, starting around 9:30 a.m. (Photo contribution by resident Ed Tacchi)
Not afraid to show their faces, residents give AvalonBay the "thumbs down."
