"I don't cook anymore!" We have all heard people (mostly ladies who have retired) say that. I for one have always wondered what they eat, but, as you go through the supermarkets and the other food stores, you can easily see why they don't have to cook. There is so much pre-cooked food that you just have to zap, it does make their life easier. I ordered a roast at the butcher shop recently and said "Just crack the bone and tie it." He replied "the old fashioned way?" and what could I say but yes. I have always felt that if you could read, you could cook and besides I found it fun and relaxing, as well as tastier, and have never minded being thought of as old-fashioned. I have to go now, it's time to stir my apple butter.

Happy birthday wishes go to Hugh Farrell, who celebrates his special day on the 2nd of October, to Dorothy Kraker, who does the same on the 3rd, to Sonia Slattery who blows out the candles on her cake on the 6th, and last but not least to Edward Kenney who claims October 8th as his special day. May all the happy celebrants have a wonderful day and a year full of good health and much happiness with many more years to come.

Happy wedding anniversary wishes go to Pauline and Bob Rudkin, who if I am notmistaken will be celebrating their 57th anniversary on October 5th. May you both have a great time and a year filled with health and happiness in which to mark this wonderful milestone.

Prem Chauhan, Chairlady for the Drama/Literature Department of the Community Club of Garden City has really out done herself for their Wednesday, October 8th program at the Garden City Library. Prem has arranged to have Corliss Pyfe Whitney, a former Rockette, tell of her experience with accompanying videos and slides. She started at age seventeen as the youngest member of the troupe. What a treat for ladies of all ages.
