Huge Win For Licitra Thunder 9's Over Island Trees
Tobin over the ball gets ready to snap.
An unstoppable offense that included a touchdown bomb just before the half and a flawless defensive effort did it again for the Thunder 9's. This one was never close as the team rolled to a 20-0 half time lead at GCAA Stewart Field last Sunday. A swarming defense repeatedly sacked Island Trees in their backfield while the offense totally dominated, executing their playbook with precision. Gentleman Coach Licitra demonstrated the meaning of sportsmanship to the boys. He did everything possible to hold back his Big Thunder Machine in the second half and not embarrass the outmatched opponents.
But, this allowed the boys to have some great fun. Many of the offensive lineman got their chance to carry the football while the regular backfield got down in the trenches to open the holes for their lineman carrying the pigskin. To the surprise and delight of the crowd, they all picked up yardage on their turns with the ball. Many of the players enjoyed trying different positions on defense as well. Again, the results were incredibly good, given so many players were out of their normal spots.
Salsberg gains some tough yards behind Kavan, McCartney and Ragusa.
The game also saw the debut of two valuable additions to the defensive line, Erik Wortmann and Max Zembrowski. The Thunder 9's will put their 2-0 unbeaten record on the line next Sunday at 9:00 at GCAA Stewart Field against the always tough Baldwin Bombers.
Pappas breaks a long one for six points on his very first carry.
Nagel sends Jack Tiedemann powering around the right side.
Wortmann reads the play perfectly and get ready to lower the boom
