Thunder O waiting for Ref's whistle to begin.
Thunder O waiting for Ref's whistle to begin. It was a beautiful, warm, late summer afternoon in Hempstead where the Garden City Thunder was scheduled to play the Hempstead Tigers. The boys from Garden City were ready for the difficult challenge of the Hempstead Tigers while looking for their second win of the young season. We won the coin toss and elected to receive the kickoff to show off our powerful offense but the Hempstead Tigers were up to the challenge and stopped us on fourth down deep in Hempstead territory. The first quarter was a grind where we won the field position battle but could not put any points on the board but that would change soon enough. The second quarter arrived as we were driving the ball behind our very strong offensive line led by Matt Esposito, Brian Goulard, Justin Holloway, Darius Iraj, Daniel Krumm, Chris Mosciatiello, Jack Murtagh and Kevin Sprotte who opened a huge hole for James Sullivan to score our first touch down of the game. It was at this point where we really started to take control of the game with a halfback pass from Brian Colamussi to Conor Muldoon with the extra point scored by Liam Byrnes to put us ahead 13 - 0. Our Defense played another solid game allowing only one big play for a touchdown which made the score 13 - 6. That was all our defense would allow for the day, our defense is led by Luke Armstrong, Colin Castro, Lucas D'Aversa, Thomas Mascola, Justin Samardich, Patrick Slovensky, Ben Walsh and Matias Yianatos and Mike Crapotta (Injured Reserve). Our last touchdown was again made possible by our powerful front line when Brian Colamussi broke free for about a 15 yard run which made the score 19 - 6. We ran out the balance of the game using Matthew Borges to run a couple of bootlegs, Brian Goulard up the middle and Justin Samardich on a few sweeps. Our next game is scheduled for Friday night September 26 at 6 PM at the Garden City Pool complex against a tough Elmont Cardinal team. GO THUNDER!!!!!!!
