Cherry Valley Club Nine Hole Tournament
      Blessed with lovely fall weather, the Cherry Valley Ladies Nine Hole golf group held its Mystery Tournament on September 17th. With tricks and treats at each hole, the format provided players with some "fun" golf. Co-chairladies Candace Grimes and Willis Priolo organized another very successful event, with the spirited help of their committee.

Garden City Girls' Summer Lacrosse League
      In the first ever Garden City Summer Girls' Lacrosse League, there were great accomplishments both on and off the field. Approximately one hundred and fifty girls from Garden City, Floral Park, East Meadow, Rockville Centre, Manhasset, and Port Washington participated in a six-week summer lacrosse league held at St. Paul's.

Thunder 9 Shuts Out Hempstead
      The Thunder Comiskey team shut out Hempstead 21-0 this past Sunday. It was a true team effort. Offensively as well as defensively the Thunder 9''s were in full control of the game. Next week the Comiskey team travels to Inwood. Go Thunder!

Shooting Stars Play Great Game
      The girls U10 Shooting Stars played a great game this past Saturday against a tough Albertson squad. The Shooting Stars played Albertson to a 2-2 tie and remain undefeated for the season. A total team effort was needed in the hard fought match. The Albertson girls jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead but The Shooting Stars quickly got it back and tied it 1-1.

Garden City Flames On The Ball
      The Flames played an amazing game on Saturday, September 20, and although the opposition was not quite up to snuff, the GC Flames played with skill & showed a lot of class in a lopsided win. Congratulations to the goal scorers who all had one each, Brett Alvarez, Tim Collins, Chris Costigan, Tim Josephs, Pat Slovensky, Conor Sproat and Billy Trimmer.

GC Rams Girls Lacrosse Registration
      Team registration will run from September 27th and will end on December 20, 2008. Rams Girl's Lacrosse is open to all girls in grades 3 to 8 who resided in the Village of Garden City or go to school within the village. Applications are available at Olympic Den, 676 Dogwood Avenue in Franklin Square (516.486.0975). The registration fee is $125.

      It was a beautiful, warm, late summer afternoon in Hempstead where the Garden City Thunder was scheduled to play the Hempstead Tigers. The boys from Garden City were ready for the difficult challenge of the Hempstead Tigers while looking for their second win of the young season.

Huge Win For Licitra Thunder 9's Over Island Trees
      An unstoppable offense that included a touchdown bomb just before the half and a flawless defensive effort did it again for the Thunder 9's. This one was never close as the team rolled to a 20-0 half time lead at GCAA Stewart Field last Sunday. A swarming defense repeatedly sacked Island Trees in their backfield while the offense totally dominated, executing their playbook with precision.

      This past Sunday, the Garden City Thunder 8's continued their road swing thru Newbridge Park in Bellmore. Another beautiful day of fall weather and competitive football awaited them. The Thunder boys knew it was going to be a tough test of their character and ability. This was Bellmore's home opener, and they were pumped to deliver a home victory in this young season.

      The U8 Sting played under the lights on Friday night and had the time of their lives. This exciting game had parents and kids alike screaming. The Sting is playing in a competitive league with most opposing teams being U-9. The age and size of the opposition are not a deterrent.

U-12 GC Warriors Defeat Smithtown Gladiators
      The U-12 GC Warriors faced off against the Smithtown Gladiators on Sept. 20th. Although the majority of the play was in the visitors' end right from the start of the game, the Gladiators scored first when they were able to split the defense and put one in from the 18 yard line. GC continued to dominate the play with strong defense and relentless pressure on the ball.

      On Saturday, September 20 th the Garden City Power Girls Soccer team played an awesome game against the first place Glen Cove Rising Stars! The field was filled with ambitious players who were determined to win right from the start. The Power demonstrated great skill by taking the Rising Stars with careful position playing.

Patriettes Beat CSH Thunder
      This past Saturday was a beautiful afternoon for the U 12 Patriettes to hold their home opener. The Patriettes took on the Cold Spring Harbor Thunder in their first match ever at Community Park Field. The Patriettes came into the game tied for 2nd place in their division and the Thunder were only one point behind in the standings.

Xtreme Win A Thriller
      Last Saturday the U-12 Garden City Xtreme hosted the East Islip Red Devils at the Community Park. The Red Devils are another new team the Xtreme are competing against now that Nassau and Suffolk Counties are combined in the U-12 age group. The Red Devils tested the Xtreme's resolve, coming back to the match on two different occasions.

U-11 Girls Force
      The U-11 Girls Force team played two tightly contested games over the last two weeks. On Sept 13th, the Force raveled to Merrick to face the South Merrick Dynamite. The girls stepped on the field ready to play and quickly began challenging the Dynamite's defense.

Go Blue!
      The Girls Third grade Developmental Team traveled to Massapequa last weekend for another exciting match up on the soccer field. This team played their hearts out and dominated most of the game. The keepers, Lauren Hammersley and Meghan Galligan denied all attempts for a goal. The defensive line with Julia Choi and Julia Beckman made it difficult for Massapequa to penetrate.

      The Garden City Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving team added two more wins this week with victories over Jericho and Bellmore-Merrick. Coach Anne Sullivan utilized the versatility of her swimmers to create winning combinatins to keep the winning streak alive.The girls will face tough competition this Friday against Manhasset.

Boys Varsity Soccer Beats Great Neck North 2-1
      It was a beautiful fall day as Garden City's boys varsity soccer team played host to the Great Neck Blazers on September 17th. Garden City opened the scoring as Ed Shannon scored off a pass from teammate Will Mignon midway through the first half to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.

      GCAA is now accepting sign ups for 2008-2009 GCAA Intramural Basketball Season. The season will start in early December and run thru mid March. The application can be downloaded from the GCAA website www.gc-aa.com and clicking on the basketball link. The fee for grades K-1 is $30 and 2nd thru 8th $60.

J.V. Win Streak Hits 50
      Last Saturday morning September 20th, the Trojan J.V. football team beat Carey, 42-14 to extend its remarkable winning streak to 50 games dating back to the start of the 2002 season. It was a wild game with the Trojans jumping out to a 24-14 first quarter lead. Halfback Mark Ellis was outstanding with three touchdowns, one on a kickoff return and two others on fine runs.

"MOMMY AND ME" YOGA PROGRAM
      Our new "Mommy and Me" yoga program is open to children ages 3 to 5 years old who live in the Inc. Village of Garden City, and their parent/caregiver. This program will begin the on Wednesday, September 17th at 9:15 a.m. at St. Paul's Cluett Hall. Connie McKnight, our certified yoga instructor, has designed the classes to stimulate the child and the adult as well.

      The Garden City FIRE U9 Travel Baseball team got off to a hot start this season with a 3-0 record. The opening game saw the FIRE square off against the LIAS Sharks where the FIRE won a tough hard fought game 4-3.
