GC Students At Empire Games

Congratulations to Matthew Castellano, pictured here with Superintendent of Schools Dr. Robert Feirsen and Board of Education President Colleen Foley receiving a certificate of recognition at the September 16th Board of Education Meeting for his recent achievements at the 2008 Empire Games for the Physically Challenged. Matthew was one of five district students to medal and/or place at the games, winning the Gold Medal for the Precision Throw, and achieving his Personal Best in the Distance Kick, Soft Discus, 100 Meter, 40 Meter, and in the Club Throw.

Michael Lynch won the Gold Medal for the Distance Kick and the 40 Meter; Silver Medals for the 100 Meter, Club Throw, and the Precision Throw, and the Bronze Medal for the Soft Discus.

Grayce Nix was awarded Gold Medals for the 40 Meter and the Long Jump; Silver Medals for the 60 Meter and Slalom; Bronze Medals for the 100 Meter and the Club Throw; Second Place in the Distance Kick; Fourth Place in the Soft Shot and the Soft Discus; Fifth Place for the Shot Put, and Sixth Place for the Precision Throw.

Philip Mamos received the Gold Medal for Soft Discus; the Bronze Medal for the Discus; Fourth Place for the Distance Kick and the Precision Throw; Fifth Place for the Club Throw, and Sixth Place for the 40 Meter.

Colin Ripp won an amazing six Gold Medals in Soft Discus, Distance Kick, Club Throw, Shot Put, Discus and Soft Shot; and three Silver Medals in Precision Throw, Slalom and 100 Meter.

Congratulations to these young athletes from everyone in Garden City Public Schools on their outstanding achievements at the 2008 Empire Games!
