Study after study has shown organized music lessons benefit children academically and may even boost IQ's. A recent study published in the Journal of Educational Psychology (Vol. 98, No. 2), states the effect increases the longer a child takes lessons. In other words: music lessons make the grade.

Informed and involved parents have long noticed the positive affects music lessons have on their children-not only on the overall acumen, but motor skills, attention span, focus, self image and confidence of their children have all improved as a result. It's also been shown that students who play instruments do better in math and science.

Since 2005, the Music Institute at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection has provided one-on-one private lessons in piano, organ, and guitar from talented adult musicians who are church members. In offering private lessons as an outreach service to the community, Resurrection's Music Institute imparts joy and a lifelong love of music to children and adults alike.

Piano lessons are offered by Ms. Hannah Bulle, organ lessons by Mr. Ed Dettling Jr., Director of Music, and guitar lesson by Deacon Paul Pugliese, guitarist for the Saturday evening worship service. Music theory is also incorporated into the lessons-an invaluable tool that translates to any instrument students pursue. These fine musicians are actively involved in Resurrection's worship and music ministries and have a great deal of experience teaching private music lessons.

Each spring, The Music Institute holds an annual recital to showcase the growing talents of its music pupils. What a rewarding experience for everyone participating and for those who attend!

Lessons are 30 minutes once a week and cost $25 per lesson-after an initial fee of $30 for books, supplies, and recital costs. If you are interested in lessons, or would like more information, please contact the church office at 516-746-4426.
