The U-11 Garden City Flash secured first place at the Covanta Tournament in a pre-season confidence booster the weekend before Labor Day. They opened their regular season against the POB Lightning, the only squad at Covanta that ever had a temporary lead over the Flash. More ... The Girls Swimming and Diving team got off to a good start to the season this week with a solid win against Massapequa.This year's team consists of five seniors, seven juniors, five sophomores, nine freshman, six eighth graders and six seventh graders. Coach Anne Sullivan will try to work her magic again this year as she and the team strive for their tenth straight county championship. More ... The Williston Park Little League organization donated and dedicated a Memorial Garden and plaque at Kelleher Field on September 11, 2008 in remembrance of those residents who tragically died on 9/11. League Vice President and Village Trustee Bill Darmstadt organized the effort and was assisted by the village DPW crews and fellow Little league members to create a beautiful garden. More ... The Garden City Casino Senior Tennis Team successfully defended their title, defeating the Sea Glen Tennis Club 11-0 in the Final at the Cedar Brook Golf and Tennis Club. Andrew Hammersley got the game off to a great start by striking out the side. Entering the bottom of the 2nd with the Sting down 1-0, they rallied for their first runs of the season by plating 3 for a 3-1 lead. More ... Our adult ultimate workout tennis program is for adults that know how to play tennis to hone their skills while running through drills with one of the Recreation Department's staff pros. The Garden City Athletic Association will once again offer a Field Hockey Clinic for all girls in the 4th through 8th grades. Weekday Clinic Information The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club's fall season has begun. Girls play 9:00AM until 1:00PM and boys play from 1:00PM until 5:00PM (with the exception of Kindergarten and 1st grade). The program runs for eight consecutive Saturday's with the exception of October 11th (Columbus Day Weekend). The season ends on November 1st. More ... This Sunday The 9 yr. old Comiskey football team traveled to Baldwin to take on the Baldwin Bombers. The boys were able to hold Baldwin off on all attempts to score against the Thunder defense. All the Thunder 9 players did a tremendous job on a very hot and humid day at Rath Park in Franklin Square last Sunday. The game was highlighted by yet another thrilling goal line stand by the Thunder defense just prior to halftime to preserve their lead. More ... The boys of the Moscatiello 7 year olds took the field for the first time this Sunday vs. the Hicksville Crusaders at Stewart Field. It was a hot and steamy day but our boys were ready for battle! More ... The Garden City Thunder 8A Team traveled to a hot and steamy Hempstead this past Sunday for its first game of the season. The "Men of Thunder" had been rewarded for their great season last year by being placed in the ultra competitive "A" division. The boys had worked long and hard during August and early September to prepare for their elevated league status. More ... The Thunder O'Connor 7's took to the field for the very first time playing an outstanding game against Inwood last Sunday. In oppressively hot July-like conditions, the boys kept it close against a tough opponent coming up on the short end of a 6-0 score. More ... On Sat. Sept. 13, the GC Warriors faced the Oceanside Vipers. The Vipers took an early lead in the game and held off GC's scoring attempts for most of the first half. Kyle Bratton was finally able to tie up the game with a goal scored right before halftime. The Vipers scored again, but GC remained undaunted. More ... On Saturday, September 13th, the boys U-11 Raiders soccer team earned an impressive 3 to 2 home victory over a very talented squad from Garden City Park. The hard fought win was the result of a relentless effort by the Raiders, who overcame two deficits en route to their victory over a previously undefeated team. More ... The U10 girls Shooting Stars have gotten off to a tremendous start in the first year together by shutting out both opponents along with tremendous offensive teamwork in both victories. This week the Stars took on a tough Oceanside team and got their second victory, 2-0. More ... GCAA is now accepting sign ups for 2008-2009 GCAA Intramural Basketball Season. The fee for grades K-1 is $30 and 2nd thru 8th $60. More ... The G-Blue Team played their first scrimmage on Saturday, Sept. 14th against Jericho. The team put amazing effort out on the field. Lauren Hammersley playing Keeper denied Syosset on every attempt. Julia Choi, Claire Haggerty, and Melissa Whitney played aggressively on the offensive line. More ... It was an exciting game for the Flames on Sunday, September 14th. The team took to the field ready to play. Coaching on the lines by Coaches Tom Trimmer, John Hammersley and Russ Josephs took the team to a new level of play. The defensive players played outstandingly as they squeezed up as a tough line and kept the ball in the Lynbrook end. More ... On Saturday the Garden City U12 Patriettes continued their fall season with a match versus the Oceanside Wave Runners at Soccer Park. The Patriettes opened up the game by winning the coin toss and immediately going on the offensive. More ... The U-12 Garden City Xtreme traveled to Soccer Park in Plainview to play the Massapequa Explosion for the first time. It was another humid day, with more clouds than sun. the Explosion is a well skilled team that plays the game on the ground. The Xtreme came out and played the ball wide and attempted to get forward quickly. More ... In Week two action last Saturday the U10 Garden City Wildcats traveled south to take on the Rockville Centre Express. The Wildcats, having won their season opener were looking to build on their success. After a night of heavy rain, the Wildcats took to the pitch in less than desirable field conditions and continued their strong play. More ... The Garden City U-11 Bombers defeated the Hicksville Rebels on Saturday, September 13 by a score of 4 -2. The following day the Bombers beat the Commack Dynamo 2-1 in the State Cup. The Bombers play two games next week. The Bombers play POB Gunners on Saturday, September 20 at 9:00 at Soccer Park and Dix Hills at 5:30 on Wednesday, September 24. More ... Garden City's JV football team was on a 48 game winning streak, spanning the last six years, when they took on the Mepham Pirates for the first game of the 2008 season Saturday morning September 13th at Mepham High School. It appears that the Trojans are well on their way to keeping this streak alive as Mepham was not able to score any points against the Trojans starting defense. More ... A fine opening day crowd of more than a thousand fans was on hand at Warren King Field last Saturday to see the Garden City Trojans football team blank Mepham, 19-0. With 30 underclassmen, including nine sophomores, listed among a 44 man roster, this truly is the proverbial "rebuilding year" for Garden City. More ... Garden City's boys varsity soccer team is proving that they are a team to be reckoned with after a victory over Mineola on Wednesday September 11th at Mineola High School. GC's James Mignon scored the only goal by heading in a rebound from Vin Chiodo's shot 19 minutes into the second half. More ...
