Suozzi To Report On Tax Hike Plus GC's "Cool Downtown"
Russell Matthews, Chamber vice president, was the presenter at the Chamber's 2005 kick-off luncheon at which Tom Suozzi focused on the major causes of too high taxes.
This past week, it was revealed that Nassau County Executive Tom Suozzi's proposed 2009 budget includes a 3.9 percent tax hike - the first in five years. Along with the tax increase, comes a four-point plan to reduce costs to offset an expected $100 million budget deficit. At the Garden City Chamber of Commerce's season kick-off luncheon next Wednesday, September 24, noon, at the Garden City Hotel, Mr. Suozzi is expected to focus on the tax increase along with cost cutting initiatives.
"The people on Long island are overtaxed and I have been working my entire public life to cut property taxes," Suozzi said. "But the downturn in national economy has had a harmful effect on us as a state. It has dramatically impacted the county of Nassau and everyone else." Mr. Suozzi is expected to include a report on the New York State Commission on Property Tax Relief, his "signature issue. He will also offer reasons why, in a recent presentation, he designated Garden City as one of Nassau County's four "cool downtowns!"
The Chamber luncheon program will begin at 11:30 a.m. with a networking reception and showcase of various member businesses, including an exhibit by AvalonBay Communities, Inc. Luncheon will be served promptly at 12:30 p.m. Advance reservations are required at $60 per person for Chamber members; $65 for non-members.
To reserve, call the Chamber at 746-7724, ext. 101. Credit cards are accepted.
