On September 6th with threats of Hurricane Hanna in the air, the Garden City Power Girls Soccer Team played their first league game of the new season and demonstrated hurricane force as they took on the Rockville Centre Stars. The teams will play in the highly competitive Island Garden League. You do not need to try out if you have any interest in playing GCAA intramurals. In that case, just fill out the GCAA application. The U11 Garden City Cyclones team had a thrilling and successful summer. They played in the very competitive NT baseball league and finished in second place after losing an exciting, extra inning championship game. The boys enjoyed themselves as they continued to develop their baseball skills and solidify as a team. More ... The U12 GC Xtreme hosted the Bay Shore Power at St Pauls this past Saturday. Although the match was played under threatening skies and the thick humidity of "Hanna," the team was pumped up for its season opener. Throughout the summer, the Xtreme have worked diligently to prepare for the fall season. More ... Last Saturday the Garden City U12 Patriettes opened their Long Island Junior Soccer season with a game against the Port Washington Stingers. No one expected the game to go on as scheduled due to the impending storm. However, it was the Patriettes who came out like a hurricane. More ... The Garden City Athletic Association will once again offer a Field Hockey Clinic for all girls in the 4th through 8th grades. The clinic will take place on Sunday afternoons from 4 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on the high school turf field. More ... The Garden City Girls U-11 Force team faced the Bellmore Cyclones in their opening game this season. Both teams arrived at St Pauls with the threat of Tropical Storm Hannah overhead. The game began and the Force got off to a strong start with an offense led by Katie Gillan, Annie Walsh and Caroline Kenny, who each, had at least two shots on goal. More ... The Garden City Athletic Association will once again offer a Field Hockey clinic for all girls in the 4th through 8th grades. The clinic will take place on Sunday afternoons from 4p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on the High School turf field. The clinic will run every Sunday from September 14th through October 26th. There will not be a session on October 12th. More ... Kids are back to school and many sports at the High School are in full swing. Within the last week, the girls varsity soccer team lost a tough game to South Side on September 5th by a score of 3-1 but then came back with a 2-1 victory over Farmingdale on September 8th. More ... "MOMMY AND ME" YOGA PROGRAM Our new "Mommy and Me" yoga program is open to children ages 3 to 5 years old who live in the Inc. Village of Garden City, and their parent/caregiver. This program will begin the on Wednesday, September 17th at 9:15 a.m. at St. Paul's Cluett Hall. More ... The Garden City Recreation Department is winding down from a wonderful summer season. Our pool opened its 52nd season to beautiful, warm weather which continued throughout our summer months. Our pool members were treated to many special events including movie nights, senior days, and family concerts. More ... The Garden City Wildcats opened their U-10 girls season with a solid victory over the Syosset Red Devils in the Nassau Major Division of the LIJSL.
