As is usual with the beginning of the team sports season, we are beginning to receive large quantities of material from coaches and parents. We welcome submissions and strive to get everyone's material into the paper as quickly as possible. Here are some guidelines for submission of material (in particular sports items):

• We recommend sending material via email as it saves you a trip and streamlines our processing time. Items can be emailed to editor@gcnews.com or delivered to our office at 821 Franklin Avenue, Garden City.

• Emailed stories should be in either an MS Word format or in text.

• Photos should be sent as separate attachments in a .jpg format. Do not embed photo files inside another document. Photos that are embedded are reduced in quality and often can't be used.

• Each photo should have a caption, preferably identifying those in the photo. Captions should be included in the email or with the story. (Don't make the photo's file name the caption because sometimes they get truncated during transmission.)

• Please include a phone number or email address so we can contact you.

• For sports material: please keep the number of photos to 5 or 6 per week per team for ordinary events. This will help us get everyone's material into the paper in a timely fashion.

• Material must be received by Wednesday at noon for Friday's paper.
