Have I been missing something weather wise this past summer? The announcer on the radio said recently, "Did you ever see a summer where we had so many 90 degree days and so close together?" No, I didn't! I do remember summers when we had weeks of 90 degree days that went on for a week or more with only short respites between them, but not this summer. Did we have 90 degree days? Yes, we did, but there were not that many and not that close together. We had quite a few days that were supposed to get into the mid to upper 80's and some of them made it but many did not. Well, it's just about all over now and we even got through Hanna without too much trouble. Soon we will be turning things over to the Leaf Peppers and the bright colors that Mother Nature gives us before we go into winter.

The Birthday Club got together recently and went out to dinner to celebrate. Although they have different dates that they claim as their special day, they enjoy getting together and blowing out the candles together. Doing the huffing and puffing were: Dorothy Alford, Ed Alford, Charles Dunleavy, Irene Christie, John Christie, and Elizabeth Dunleavy. They do their joint celebrating together as soon as they have all had their individual celebrations and they all had a wonderful time. There is another group that does a joint celebration and they are known as the Cedar Place Birthday Group but they do their celebrating in the spring.

For those who are celebrating their special days just about now we have: Lorraine Alonge and Ray Finnerty, both blowing out their candles on the 16th of this month and to Bob Rudkin, who will do his celebrating on the 21st of September. May they all have a wonderful day and a great year ahead filled with good health and much happiness with many more years to come.

Happy wedding anniversary wishes to Betty and Hank Pupke who will be celebrating on the 14th of this month and to Ernie and Tony Zarcone who will be celebrating their 55th anniversary just about now. May both happy couples enjoy many more years of wedded bliss in health and happiness.

The Dinner/Bridge at the Garden City Country Club was held this past week and the happy winners of the 1st Small Slam of the evening was made by Aurora Manello and Pat Dolan in 6 clubs. The elusive Grand Slam was not made, but enjoying the evening were Marie Kelly, Joy Losgar, Florence Dieterich, Ethlyn Anderl, and Pat Weber among may others. Bridge Chairlady Muriel Urban announced that the next Dinner/Bridge would be held on Wednesday, October 15th and be sure to make your reservations.

Speaking of bridges, Helga Otte asked you to hold the date of Thursday, October 27th for the Children's Medical Fund Bridge that will be held at the Garden City Casino. This is a Lunch/Bridge and is very popular so do get your reservations in promptly. More news will be forthcoming soon.

The last day of the Garden City Pool saw Dorothea de Lannoy, Doris Forster, and Ann Heinzelmann enjoying the water and the friends they all meet at the pool. There were many sad faces after the closing as the weather was so nice they could have used another week at least. Maybe you could all meet this Saturday at the Garden City Historical Society's First Anniversary of their Consignment Shop from noon to 5 p.m. There will be goodies galore as well as refreshments. Don't miss it!

Barbara Flanagan enjoyed the Labor Day weekend visiting her sister out in Riverhead and they had a good time and a wonderful visit.

The days will soon be getting shorter just when we need more time in the day for all the upcoming events that are being planned, but we just have to make the best of it. We all do seem to fit things in no matter what.

Your thought for the week is: Experience is wonderful. It enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it. That's all for now. See you next week.
