On Sunday, September 21, Hofstra will host the Italian Experience, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. outdoors on the South Campus. The Italian Experience is one of the largest festivals of its kind in the United States, celebrating Italy's gifts of culture, education and commerce to America. As in the past, the Italian Experience will feature a full itinerary of crafts, live entertainment and food. Entertainment includes performances by The Long Island Mandolin and Guitar Orchestra, the San Remo Duo, traditional folk songs and dance performed by I Paesani, Pop-era featuring members of the Bronx Opera Company, Katie's Puppets, the Italian Fairy, The Magic of Maione, the Italian-American "Poet's and Writer's Piazza," presented by the Association of Italian American Educators (AIAE); and vocal performances sponsored by L'Esperienza Magazine. Theatergoers may also attend a matinee performance of 1776, presented by Hofstra Entertainment at 2 p.m. at the John Cranford Adams Playhouse. Tickets are $30; $28 senior citizen (over 65); $15 matriculated non-Hofstra student; and $10 for children under 12 and for members of the Hofstra community (faculty, staff, students) with a current HofstraCard (two-ticket maximum). Between September 7 and 8, unknown persons broke into a garage,and took a golf cart at the GC Country Club. They drove it and damaged a green area and flag pin. The golf cart was found on an adjacent green. Total damage to the grounds and the golf cart exceeded $5,000...On September 4, unknown persons threw a bottle through a window to a Meadow St residence. Value $200... An attempted burglary occurred on September 5, at a Meadow Street residence. Unknown persons removed a window screen and attempted to open a window there...On September 7, a window to a trailer was broken in the parking lot of a Franklin Avenue business. Value was $150...PO Oswald stopped a 32-year-old Carle Place man who was driving northbound on Clinton Road in the southbound lanes on September 7, almost striking PO Oswald's police car ,which was driving southbound. The motorist was arrested for DWI (.15% BAC), driving on the wrong side of the road and numerous other traffic violations...On September 3, burglars entered a Lindbergh Street residence. A rear screen was found pushed in, and jewelry,a cell phone, purse, lap top computer, totaling over $4,000, were found missing...PO Matos stopped a 43-year-old Great Neck man driving on Washington Avenue, on September 3. He was arrested for having a suspended license for a prior DWI arrest. He was also charged with a violation of an order of protection after it was determined that a female passenger in the car had an order of protection against him...
