"MOMMY AND ME" YOGA PROGRAM

Our new "Mommy and Me" yoga program is open to children ages 3 to 5 years old who live in the Inc. Village of Garden City, and their parent/caregiver. This program will begin the on Wednesday, September 17th at 9:15 a.m. at St. Paul's Cluett Hall. Connie McKnight, our certified yoga instructor, has designed the classes to stimulate the child and the adult as well. Each class is 55 minutes long. Children MUST be three by the start of the class in order to attend. The 12 week session will cost $60 and will run into December. The Garden City Recreation Department's Fall Adult Tennis Lesson Applications are now available. In order to create sessions geared to the needs of our residents, we are asking any adult who is a resident in the Inc. Village of Garden City and is interested in our tennis lessons to visit the Recreation Department's Administrative Offices at 108 Rockaway Ave. and pick up an application. Please follow the directions listed when filling out the application.

1. Choose the days and times you are available to play

2. Self rate your tennis ability

3. Either drop off or mail your application to the Recreation office at 108 Rockaway Ave. by 9/11.

Classes will then be made by grouping people of similar abilities according to the dates they are available. Our ten week, one hour class will cost $199 and will start in late September. For further information, please class 465-4075

Recreation Department Dance Conservatory

The Garden City Recreation Department's Dance Conservatory Program is pleased to announce the start of registration for its upcoming 2008-2009 season! Director Felicia Lovaglio, along with Mary Searson and the rest of her staff, are excited to start off another fantastic year. The Dance Conservatory offers classes to Garden City residents ages 3 1/2 through adult which are non-performance based. Age is determined by the start date of the desired class. adult pastel class now forming

for the fall

The Garden City Recreation Department is offering an adult art class. This ten week program will teach the beginner as well as the advanced student the art of painting portraits and landscapes/still-life in pastel from photographs.

The first lesson will include a portrait and landscape demonstration. At this time, a supply list will be provided. Students will be given the option of dividing each three hour session between portrait or landscape/still-life, or they may choose to concentrate soley on the subject of their choice.

Demonstrations will be available as needed throughout the program. Each student will receive the individual attention required at their own pace and level of expertise.

Arleen Rueth Urban, the instructor for this program, is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. A winner of numerous awards, her portraits hand in many Garden City homes, as well as throughout the United States. A portrait of Elvis Presley permanently hands in Graceland, and Barbara Walters is among her celebrity commissioned subjects.

This class is open to adult residents who reside in the Inc. Village of Garden City. The class will run from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each Friday beginning September 5th in Cluette Hall at St. Paul's. The cost of this ten week program will be $105.

ADULT FALL YOGA PROGRAM

Our fall session of yoga will begin the week of September 15th. Connie McKnight, our certified yoga instructor, has designed classes with all ages in mind. Each class is 55 minutes long. All classes are held in Cluett Hall at St. Paul's. Any resident of the Inc. Village of Garden City is invited to join these relaxing classes.

The course schedule is as follows:

YOUTH TENNIS LESSONS AT

We are pleased to announce the start of registration for our 2008-2009 Indoor Tennis Program for Children age 4-18 at the Community Park Tennis Center.

Session One - Classes begin the week of September 22nd

Session Two - Classes begin the week of January 5th.

A synoposis of lessons we offer is below -

Tots Ages 4-5

PeeWee - Ages 5 to 7 Introduction to Tennis, emphasizing basic movement and striking skills in a fun game playing environment.

Novice - Ages 6 to 7 Continued development of basic movement and striking skills on a full size court. Serving and scorekeeping will be introduced. Past Tennis experience required.

Junior - Ages 8 to 11 Extension of Novice Level program. Continued emphasis on striking concepts, movement, and skills related to tennis play.

Junior Advanced - Ages 8 to 11 For the more serious, more advanced students. These lessons are offered in 1 1/2 hr time slots. Experience required. Match Play during last 1/2 hour.

Senior - Ages 12 and older - Extension of Junior Program, continued emphasis on fundamentals and skills related to tennis play.

Senior Advanced - Ages 12 and older - For the more serious, more advanced student. These lessons are offered in 1 1/2 hour time slots. Experience required. Ladder participation during last half hour.

Ultimate Workout - For experienced Junior Tennis Players who want to "hone" their skills and get a good workout.

Intramural Match Play

This tennis program is for children ages 9 and up who are ready to take their tennis skills to the next level by playing intramural matches in a minimally supervised, fun environment. It is held at the Community Park Tennis Facility. Children must be able to serve from the baseline, sustain a slow paced rally, keep score and have a general understanding of the rules of tennis. Screening for this program will be held on Sunday, October 5th at 2 pm. You must register for this screening. The cost of this program will be $160.

Team Tennis for Juniors

This program is for junior players ages 9-18 who want to play competitive tennis in a team format. Interclub play and practice time are offered in this program. A tryout is mandatory for this program since there are a limited number of participants. Tryout dates for this program are October 4th at 3:30 p.m. and October 5th at 4 p.m. There is a cost to participate in this program, which will be determined at a later date
