Buckley Celebrates 81st Commencement
      On June 11, 2008, the Buckley Country Day School community took great pride in celebrating the many accomplishments of a class of twenty-three remarkable young people and in welcoming them as the youngest members of the Alumni Association.

Devils At Covanta Cup Tournament
      The U-10 Devils coached by Sean McCarthy and assisted by Justin Quinn played in their Inaugural Travel Tournament in the East Meadow Covanta Cup. The team showed excellent teamwork and determination for their first time playing together.

GCAA Sign Ups For Intramural Basketball
      GCAA is now accepting sign ups for 2008-2009 GCAA Intramural Basketball Season. The season will start in early December and run thru mid March. The application can be downloaded from the GCAA website www.gc-aa.com and clicking on the basketball link. The fee for grades K-1 is $30 and 2nd thru 8th $60.

GCAA Field Hockey Clinic
      The Garden City Athletic Association will once again offer a Field Hockey clinic for all girls in the 4th through 8th grades. The clinic will take place on Sunday afternoons from 4p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on the High School turf field. The clinic will run every Sunday from September 14th through October 26th. There will not be a session on October 12th.

Garden City Force At Covanta Tournament
      The Garden City Force did themselves proud once again at the Covanta Tournament! The Force played five great games against their division rivals at Stillwell Park in Syosset. Coaches Ed Walsh, Chris Rivielle and Joann Schwendemann guided the Force to another great start for the Fall 2008 season. Go Force!

Named Offensive Player Of The Week
      Johns Hopkins field hockey senior Emily Miller of Garden City, has been honored as the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week as announced Tuesday afternoon. It is the fifth conference player of the week honor for her career.

      The Garden City Centennials Challenger Division - Soccer (residents and non-residents) starts tomorrow, Saturday, September 6 th from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Tullamore Park. It's never too late to register (no fee, shirts/shorts/soccer balls will be provided). All disabilities welcome (girls and boys).

Garden City Girls Are League Champions
      Garden City Basketball's 6th grade girl's entry into the Village of Rockville Centre summer basketball league ended last week. The Garden City girls captured the regular season league title with only one loss and won an exciting 2 game playoff to finish as league champions. Every girl contributed during the summer season!

Bombers Win Covanta
     The Garden City U-11 Bombers took first place at the East Meadow Covanta Cup Soccer Tournament over the weekend of August 23. The Bombers record over the weekend was 4-0-1 defeating New Hyde Park, East Meadow, Commack and the Manhattan Corinthians and tying HBC Barcelona. The Bombers begin league play this Saturday, September 6 against Dix Hills.

Thunderbolts Start New Season
      The 2008/2009 Garden City Thunderbolts had a strong start to the new season going undefeated over Labor Day weekend at Mitchell Field in the Oceanside Tournament. The talented U-14 squad secured first place in the highly competitive event.

Garden City Centennial Soccer Club Weekday Clinic Information
      The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club will be opening their Fall season on Saturday September 6th. Girls play 9:00AM until 1:00PM and boys play from 1:00PM until 5:00PM (with the exception of Kindergarten and 1st grade). The program runs for eight consecutive Saturday's with the exception of October 11th (Columbus Day Weekend). The season ends on November 1st.

      "MOMMY AND ME" YOGA PROGRAM Our new "Mommy and Me" yoga program is open to children ages 3 to 5 years old who live in the Inc. Village of Garden City, and their parent/caregiver. This program will begin the on Wednesday, September 17th at 9:15 a.m. at St. Paul's Cluett Hall.

Summer Recap: U10 District 29 Baseball Finalists
      This summer, the Garden City U10 Little League baseball team put on quite a show in their run for the District 29 title. These boys of summer faced four elimination games on their way to the title match-up, and eliminated four other district teams in the process.

Flag Football League
      The Garden City Recreation Department will again be offering our popular Flag Football Program at Grove and Nassau Haven Parks. This program is open to children who reside in the Inc. Village of Garden City. Games are played in the playgrounds on weekday afternoons and during the day on school holidays. Teams will be made up of 3rd to 5th graders.

Undefeated In GrandMasters Play
      This season Garden City residents Tony Giangrasso and Ray McRory were members of the Huntington team which won the USTA Long Island GrandMasters League Championship. The league is comprised of teams whose members are at least sixty years of age. Tony and Ray as a doubles team remained undefeated in league play for the second season in a row.

Garden City Basketball - Register For The 2008-2009 Season
      Visit www.gardencitybasketball.org to sign-up online for the 2008-2009 season. The registration fee is still $50. This season our program will operate Saturday in the MORNING. Paper applications may be obtained from our website, St. Paul's-Cluett Hall, the Island Garden, and/or the village of Garden City Recreation Office. The registration deadline is October 10th.
