The 6th Grade GCAA Boys Basketball Team won both the regular season and the playoff championship for the Rockville Centre Outdoor Summer League for the 2nd straight year. The team's regular season record of 7-1 was good enough for a the league title and a number one playoff seed. The 6th grade team, coached by Tom Granville, was led by the fine shooting of Pat Gibbons, Jonathan Granville and Kyle Brattan while Connor Muldoon, Brian Goulard and Lucas Hildreth controlled the boards. One of the keys to the squad's success was the intense defensive pressure applied by James Sullivan, Colin DeAngelo, and Bobby Clarke which resulted in many fast break opportunities for Tom Tubridy, Chris Larkin and Michael Flood. Another contributing factor to the team's proficiency was Coach Granville's summer philosophy of having fun and getting a shot up, preferably a lay up, every 10 seconds. Time after time the ball moved up the floor without a dribble creating offensive opportunities in abundance for the entire team, especially those players who beat their man down the court.
The summer season brought many exciting moments including clutch jumpers, a break away lay up for the win in triple sudden death overtime to seal the league title, the team's comeback win from 10 points down to win the semi-final playoff game in overtime versus Rockville Centre and finally the team's 15 point final game victory over Farmingdale avenging the team's only defeat in the last two years.
The 6th grade boys are looking forward to building on their summer success as they get ready for the GCAA intramural and Island Garden travel basketball season.
