U-12 GC Warriors Place Second In Covanta Tournament
      The GC Warriors kicked off their fall season with a second place finish in this past weekend's East Meadow Covanta Tournament. The Warriors faced tough competition in teams from Lindenhurst, New Hyde Park, Smithtown, Rockville Centre and East Meadow. On target passing and skillful footwork by the boys led to four solid wins, with their only loss to a strong Lindenhurst team.

Troop 243 Visits Historic Gettysburg
      Not even the torrential downpour and driving rains could keep the hearty scouts of St. Joseph's Church Troop 243 away from the hallowed grounds of Gettysburg. The Boy Scouts and some of the accompanying cub and girl scouts were treated to a "backstage" tour given by Brother Lawrence of Chaminade High School.

Fireballs Are Covanta Champs
      The girls U-16 Fireballs opened their season in dominating fashion by winning the U-19 High School bracket of the Covanta East Meadow Tournament. The Fireballs earned the title with a record of 4 wins and a tie, outscoring their opponents 15 to 3. With a full schedule this Fall, including league play and high school soccer, the girls will be looking to build on this great start.

GCAA Basketball Scheduling Travel Try Outs
      The GCAA Basketball Program is now accepting applications for the 2008-2009 season. Please sign up before Sept 15, 2008 to lock in current rates. The fee will be $60 for 2nd Grade thru 8th Grade Intramurals while the fee will be $30 for K-1.

Centennial Soccer Club Clinic Information
      The Garden City Centennial Soccer Club will be opening their Fall season on Saturday September 6th. Girls play 9:00AM until 1:00PM and boys play from 1:00PM until 5:00PM (with the exception of Kindergarten and 1st grade). The program runs for eight consecutive Saturday's with the exception of October 11th (Columbus Day Weekend). The season ends on November 1st.

Community Park Platform Courts Opening
      The Garden City Recreation Department is happy to announce that our Community Park Platform Tennis Courts will be open for play on Tuesday, September 2nd. The courts will be open from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day. The cost to rent a court per hour will be $28. For further information on our new courts, please call Community Park at 483-2525.

GC Centennial Soccer Uniforms
      All children registered in the Garden City Centennial Soccer program in grades 2-12 should be in possession of a reversible uniform. If your child is new to the program or moving from first grade to second they should pick up their uniform at Sportsloft in New Hyde Park (1105 Jericho Turnpike ) or take advantage of one of our uniform pickup nights listed below.

Chargers Charged Up For Season
      Newly formed Chargers travel soccer team led by Bill Clarke completed their first tournament together as a team. After 3 wins and 2 loses the result was third place. The team is "CHARGED UP" and looking forward to an outstanding season!

GC Force Jumpstarts Fall Season
      Garden City U-11 Girls Force team arrived at the Covanta Tournament ready to play. The first game the girls were matched against the Lady Panthers. The team came out strong and with a lead off goal by Caroline Kenny on a direct kick, the girls were off and running. Solid defense held the panthers scoreless in the first half.

Panthers Girls Win Sportsmanship
      After a long season and playing most of their games shorthanded, the Lady Panthers gave their best effort and came out winning LIJ Sportsmanship Award. Coaches are looking forward to another great season that will make them the oldest girls travel team in New Hyde Park.

Patriettes Rally For 3rd Placeat East Meadow Tournament
      Last weekend the Garden City U12 Patriettes opened their season in the always competitive East Meadow Soccer Club Tournament sponsored by Covanta. After a successful spring season the Patriettes started the season with 5 very competitive games over two days. The Patriettes started out strongly with a 3-1 victory against Merrick in their Saturday morning game.

First Place GC Flash Undefeated At Covanta
      The U-11 Garden City Flash proved to be a force to be reckoned with at the Covanta Tournament last weekend. Last year's squad coached by Joe Galzerano, Charlie Cameron and John Derby had trained rigorously in anticipation of the highly competitive event and welcomed with open arms new teammates Tianna Biscone and Kelly Aneser.

Xtreme Compete In Covanta
      The Garden City U-12 Xtreme participated this past weekend in the annual East Meadow Soccer Club Tournament, sponsored by Covanta Energy. The team experienced some new challenges at this tournament. The U-12 teams are playing on much bigger fields and the format is 11 v 11. This makes the game much more tactical and interesting.

Sparks Take First Place In Covanta Cup Tournament
      The Garden City Sparks (Girls U-13) took first place in the Platinum Division of the Covanta Cup Tournament, played on August 23-24. The Sparks' opponents included three other Division One teams, a Premier team and a Division Two team. In winning first place, the Sparks went 4-0-1, outscoring their opponents by the score of 12-2.

GCAA Boys Basketball Wins Championship
      The 6th Grade GCAA Boys Basketball Team won both the regular season and the playoff championship for the Rockville Centre Outdoor Summer League for the 2nd straight year. The team's regular season record of 7-1 was good enough for a the league title and a number one playoff seed.
