Summer is over! At least the traditional one is with the closing of the G.C. Pool on Labor Day and school opening later in the week. It really doesn't matter that we still have a few more weeks of summer. Have you ever noticed that this is when the weather starts to get warm again? Let's see if that is true this year.

The Ladies/Lunch/Bridge was held this past week at the Garden City Country Club. There were twenty six tables in play after the delicious buffet lunch. Early in the afternoon a Small Slam was dealt bid and made in 6 No Trump by Ann D'Addario and Ellen Moynahan. The winner of the monthly door prize was Jo Cartiglia. There was no Grand Slam made that day and Bridge Chairlady Muriel Urban announced that the next Lunch/Bridge would take place on Thursday, September 11 th. Be sure to make your reservations.

The Dinner/Bridge at the G.C. Country Club was held the night before on Wednesday, August 20 th. The change in date was due to the Club holding a series of Golf Tournaments the first three weeks for after all, it is a golf club. They to had a delicious dinner and they too had an early Small Slam which was made by Rosemary Brown and Dede Hirsh. Lady Luck did not come forth with a Grand Slam but there is always next month. The Dinner/Bridge Chairlady Muriel Urban announced that the next affair would be held on Wednesday, September 3 rd. Don't forget those reservations.

Arlene Grecco was getting her last dips in along with a game of bridge at the G.C. Pool recently as were many of the bridge players. That must be the best of both worlds - swim - play - and swim again.

I do hope that you got your reservations in for the Tastings With a Twist on Friday, September 12 th. It is only two weeks away. Johanna Rosato, who is taking the reservations, is waiting for yours. It is all for the benefit of the G.C. Unit of the American Cancer Society so don't delay. They really do have to know how many are coming and it is such a good cause.

Happy birthday wishes go to Barbara Haynes and to Jane Nelson, both of whom will be celebrating their special days as August winds down and Labor Day appears. May you both have a wonderful day and a year filled with good health and much happiness with many more to come.

Happy 50 th wedding anniversary wishes go to Ruth and Nick La Basco , who celebrated their 50 th on the 23 rd of this month, to Carol and Bob Sexton who will be celebrating their 54 th as August comes to a close, and to Miriam and Dick Benack , who will celebrate 51 years of wedded bliss on August 31 st. May you have all the blessings of health and happiness with many more years to come.

Get well wishes go to Willa Ward, who took a spill while playing with her host's dogs on Fire Island recently and is laid up for a while. Her neighbor, Arlene Palmer, has been getting her mail and keeping her supplied with groceries but cards and calls keep up one's spirits and are truly appreciated by anyone who is house bound especially in the summer. Get well soon, Willa, as we all miss your happy smile.

I hear that reservations are coming in nicely for the Friendship Luncheon sponsored by the Community Club of Garden City and Hempstead on Wednesday, September 17 th at the Westbury Manor. Ruth Lacy is taking reservations at 110 Stratford Avenue, Garden City, N.Y. 11530. At $44 per person or guest, it's a steal for all you get and a wonderful way to start the new season.

It's time for me to take a dip in the pool but I will leave you with another thought about Life's Little Truths. Opportunities always look bigger going than coming. Have a good week and I hope to see you at the pool.
