Senator Hannon Honors Kelly Tierney
      Senator Kemp Hannon (R-6th S.D.) recently congratulated Kelly Tierney as the winner from Garden City Middle School of Senator Hannon's 2008 "There Ought To Be A Law" contest. The annual program honors ideas for New York State legislation, as conceived by local students. Kelly's winning entry proposed: "Neon headlights on cars should be illegal.

Former Comptroller To Speak At Adelphi
      Adelphi University is pleased to welcome Eugene Ludwig, founder and chief executive officer of Promontory Financial Group and former U.S. Comptroller of the Currency, who will deliver the annual Hagedorn Lecture on Corporate Social Responsibility on Tuesday, September 23, at 11:00 a.m. in the Ruth S. HOLA's Fall 2008 Spanish Classes
      The Spanish Class program is available to children in grades K-5 and will be offered on Mondays at Stratford School. The 10 week session will begin September 29th and end December 8th. There will be two classes given on Mondays. Las Iguanas Class: 4:00-5:00pm (K-1st grades) and Los Toros Class: 5:00-6:00pm (2nd-5th grades).

GCNS Alumni Return
      This summer, Garden City Nursery School enjoyed the return of more than a dozen alumni who served as counselors for the young campers. Nearly all of the summer program staffers had attended Garden City Nursery School as three and four year olds.

Students Receive Awards
      Katherine Prizeman of Mineola and Katherine LaRousse of Garden City were among the 64 outstanding members of The University of Scranton's undergraduate class of 2008 recognized for their academic excellence and/or service during the university's Class Night. Students from the university's four academic divisions were honored for achievement in their fields of study.

Students Bring Music To Ghana
      During the 2007-2008 school year, Garden City high school student William Beecher established a charity called 'Lessons for Life'. William organized several high school music students to help raise funds for a non-profit charity, called the FOCOS Group. The students gave music lessons to elementary aged children in Garden City with all proceeds going to FOCOS.

Buckley Fourth Annual Spring Gala
      Late this spring, two hundred friends of Buckley Country Day School gathered at the Garden City Hotel to celebrate the school's eighty-five-year history, its present accomplishments, and its promising future.
