St. Anne's Spirit Day Preparations Taking Place

2008-08-15 / Community

Traditional tell-tale signs of another great success for Saint Anne's annual "Spirit Day," this year on Saturday, Sept. 13 from 1 to 10 P.M., will be the size of the throng of worshippers at 5:30 P.M. outdoor Mass and the size of the line-up of "fashionables" at face and body-painting booth.

The major aim of sponsors is reaching goal of 800 contributing entrants in annual "Spirit Day-Big Bucks Sweepstakes." $50,000 of the revenue will help finance the building of a church elevator to help elderly and disabled parishioners to attend Mass on either level. The elevator will also help increase attendance at parish social functions in McCloskey Auditorium and a number of parish society meetings on lower level.

Entrants will be eligible to win $25,000 cash or one of five $5,000 prizes. Entry forms are available in weekly Church Bulletin or may be picked up after Mass at Church Rectory, 35 Dartmouth St, Garden City.

Up to five entrants can share in $150 entry contribution.

Enthusiastic "Spirit Day" Committee members will soon be soliciting entries outside the main entrance of the Church on Dartmouth Street. Their optimism in reaching 800 entry mark is embodied in optimistic theme, "See You Later, Elevator!"

Spirit Day offers a wide variety of rides and activities for the young and not-so-young , music all day long, a craft fair, a fall plant sale, Teen Night Club, Basketball Competition, and A Night at the Races among others. "Big Bucks" winners will be announced at 10 P.M.
