Talk about Gremlins! I don't know what happened, but last week's column was a repeat of the previous week's column and I will now try to repeat some of the information from the missing column.
Bridge Alert! The date for the Garden City Country Club's Ladies Luncheon/Bridge is Thursday, August 21st. When members call for their reservations, they will find the correct date. The club is sorry for the mistake. Guess that Gremlin gets around.
Carolyn Kaiser met with a group of friends for lunch at the Garden City Country Club and they seemed to be having a good time catching up on who did what during the summer. On the same day and at the same club, Ada Kane and her Mah-Jongg group had lunch before retiring to the Ladies Lounge for an afternoon of play. Terri Ferrari was also lunching there with a friend and both seemed to be enjoying both the lunch and conversation.
Michele and Paul Dyrland held a Summer Buffet for a group of family and friends in their back-yard. These are really the best kind of get togethers. No matter how good our local clubs and restaurants are - it's always more fun at an old-fashioned back yard party.
Barbara Seale had a wonderful time out East at her Granddaughter's wedding. However, she did take a spill and has been laid up for awhile. A Get Well card would hasten her progress and I know she would appreciate it. She has been missed by her pals at the pool.
Rosemary Brown reappeared at the Pool following a wonderful cruise from Denmark to Budapest which she enjoyed very much. Good to have you back home again.
Happy birthday wishes go to Nancy Fardelman , who celebrates her special day on the 10th of August, to Claire Hestenberg , who does the same on the 11th, Madeline Wittman, on the 12th along with Ed Alford who claims the same day for his birthday, to Barbara Flanagan, who celebrates on the 17th, to Charles Donleavy who lays claim to the 21st of August and to Dorothy Alford, who blows out the candles on her cake on the 18th of August. May all the Happy Birthday gals and guys have a great day and a wonderful year filled with good health and happiness with many more to come.
Happy wedding anniversary wishes go to Doris and Werner Forster, who celebrated on the 9th of August, Laura and Steve Bergman, who celebrated on the 11th, and to Florence and Bill Coffin who had a very special Anniversary this year. This was their 67th wedding anniversary and that is really some milestone. Happy wedding anniversary to those in the lost column and to those celebrating in this one.
When you put two columns together you can lose something but in checking I found Bill Lincke birthday on the 11th and Marjorie Brown on the 13th so Many Happy Returns of the day to both of you and many more.
WOW! look at all these candles burning.
The numbers in the pool have been low this past week what with the clouds, the rain, and those Autumn temperatures, but I'm sure things will get back to normal soon as it is a great place to spend the summer and to meet with your friends.
The rain didn't spoil the Patio Family Dinner at the Garden City Country Club recently and they had a wonderful crowd enjoying the summer breezes and the food and the company. Enjoying were: John LoSardo, with a family group, Dorothy a nd Ed Alford, Anita and Joe Frey, and Bea and Jim Mercadante, just back from a wonderful vacation at the Sagamore on Lake George. They had a great time enjoying the Lake, the sights, and the beautiful weather. Good to have you back home again.
The invitations are out for the Garden City Unit of the American Cancer Society's "Tastings With A Twist" on Friday, September 12th at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Cote. It will run from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. and reservations in the amount of $125 per person can be sent to Mrs. Johanna Rosato, 81 Elton Road, Garden City, N.Y. 11530. Checks should be made payable to American Cancer Society and I must say that this is always a good way to start off the early Fall season. The Jim Roberti Band will add spice to the already delicious food so join in the fun and help fight cancer.
See you next week or see you at the pool.
