WEDNESDAY NIGHT BASKETBALL

The field house is open for adult residents, ages 18 and older, for basketball "pick up" basketball games on Wednesdays from 7:30 to 10 p.m. This free program will run until August 20th. Proof of residency is required to enter the gym.

SUMMER CHESS CLUB

Our summer chess club will be held at the Garden City Library's small meeting room on Tuesdays from 4-6p.m. This program is open to any Garden City resident in 3rd through 7th grade. Paul Dooher will again moderate this free program. Please join us at the Library beginning Tuesday, July 22nd.

high school/college team handball nights

Beginning Tuesday, July 14th, the Field House will be open for High School and College aged (15 to 21) students who are residents of the Village of Garden City to come and learn the game of team handball. Jesse Sorensen, past member of the National Junior team, will monitor this group and teach everyone the rules of the game. This is a free program that will run Tuesdays through July and August from 6:30-8:30 p.m.

team handball camp for 10-14 year olds

The Garden City Recreation Department is running a Team Handball Camp for ages 9-14 year olds who are Garden City residents in St. Paul's Field House the week of August 11th. The camp will teach the fundamentals of this exciting game with an experienced player, Jesse Sorensen, running the camp. This camp will run according to the following hours:

9-10 year olds9 to 11 a.m.

11-14 year olds11:30 tp 1:30 p.m.

The cost of this camp will be $75. To register, please visit the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Avenue.

GAZEBO CONCERTS ANNOUNCED

Garden City Recreation happily announces the start of our summer Gazebo concert series on Thursday, June 26th. Our concerts are held at the Gazebo on the corner of Hilton and Stewart Avenues at 7:15 p.m. every Thursday during the summer and are free to all attending.

In the event of foul weather, the concert is still held but moved indoors to St. Paul's Cluett Hall at 295 Stewart Avenue.

The concerts for this summer are as follows:

AMUSEMENT PARK TICKETS ON CONSIGNMENT

Our department has again secured tickets on consignment for several amusement parks in our area. The parks and ticket prices are as fllows:

There is no difference in price for adults or children. These prices reflect a discount on the "walk up" admission. Tickets are limited and will be sold "first come, first served" until they are gone. All tickets must be paid for in cash, no checks or credit cards accepted. Youth basketball camp

The Recreation Department will be conducting a Basketball Camp for boys and girls who are residents of the Inc. Village of Garden City and entering 2ne through 6th grades in September, 2008. Come join us and learn what it takes to pass, dribble, and shoot in this camp. This camp will be held in St. Paul's field house the week of June 30 according to the following schedule:

Entering 2nd and 3rd grades: 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Entering 4-6 grades: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The fee for this camp will be $75.

Please make selections carefully as fees are not returnable.

To register: by mail only, no walk in registrations will be accepted until June 3rd. We can not be held responsible for delays in the mail. To register, pick up an application at the Recreation Office at 108 Rockaway Ave. You can also make your own by listing your child's name, address, phone number, birth date, grade he/she will be entering in September and the session and classes for which you are registering. Mail all information with full payment to the Garden City Recreation Department at 108 Rockaway Avenue. Please make all checks payable to the "Inc. Village of Garden City". Separate checks are needed for each camp.

YOUTH SOCCER CAMP

TENNIS CAMPS FOR AGES 4 - 18

The Recreation Department's Tennis Camp program offers children aged seven and up who are residents of the Incorporated Village of Garden City an opportunity to learn or advance their tennis skills while working with experienced tennis pros in a fun setting. Our camps are set by age and children will be grouped according to ability within their camp. The age of the child at the start of the session will determine which session the child may attend and proof of age may be required. All camps will be held at the Community Park Tennis Facility. Please read the information below to determine which camp your child is eligible to attend.

PLEASE NOTE: EACH CHILD MAY SIGN UP FOR A MAXIMUM OF TWO SESSIONS

Equipment needed: flat soled sneakers and a tennis racket

All Tennis Camps will follow the same session dates:

GAugust 11 - 14

HAugust 18 - 21

PEE WEE TENNIS - for ages 4 and 5. Skill are learned by fun and easy to do drills taught by our tennis professionals.

Time: 9-10 a.m.

Cost: $45

NOVICE CAMP - For ages 6 and 7. This camp will teach serving, rallying, and the basics of a tennis game, keeping it fun for the younger tennis set.

Time: 2:30 - 4:00 p.m.

Cost: $ 75

JUNIOR CAMP - For ages 8 - 11. For all levels of experience, this 2 1/4 hour camp will group players by ability so that everyone can move to the next level.

Time: 10 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

Cost: $90

JUNIOR CAMP PLUS - For the child aged 8 - 11 that is looking for a full day of tennis. This camp will tennis instruction in the morning, followed by lunch time and a special activity, then ending the day with tennis matches. Children must bring their lunch to this camp.

Time: 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Cost: $200

SENIOR CAMP - For the student, ages 12 to 18, who is either looking to learn to play tennis or would like to get better at the game.

Time: 9:30 - 11:30 a.m.

Cost: $90
