Foxen Wins Gold At Empire Games
Dave Foxen, a 2007 graduate of Garden City HS, won the 2008 Empire State Games wrestling championships this past weekend in Binghamton, NY. Foxen took home the Gold medal in Greco Roman wrestling as well as the Bronze medal in the Freestyle competition at 152lbs in the open division (athletes over 18yrs old). In winning the Greco Roman class, he defeated 5 time ESG champ Seijei Mugishima from NYC in the semi-finals and Reece Mariarcher of Buffalo in the finals. After losing his first match in the freestyle tournament, Foxen went on to win his next 7 consecutive bouts finishing up with the Greco finals by a score of 3-0, 4-0. Foxen was the only Champion from the Long Island region in the tournament that LI has dominated in past years. Team champions this year were the Central section (Syracuse and Binghamton) in the scholastic division and NYC in the open division in Greco Roman. Foxen will be a sophomore at Brown University this fall majoring in Engineering and competing in the 149lb weight class for the Bears wrestling team.
