Inflation (The Good Kind) On Its Way To "Spirit Day"

2008-08-08 / Community

Co-Chairs John Parks and Mike Fischer along with Bob hand (shown at a past Saint Anne's "Spirit Day") are sure to repeat smiles as "inflation" (the good kind) gets ready to visit Saint Anne's... this time on Saturday, Sept. 13 on Church grounds---Dartmouth St. and New Hyde Park Road, Garden City---from 1 to 10 PM--rain or shine!

Referred to affectionately by some as "Coney Island on Wheels," the one-day spectacular will feature a variety of inflatable amusements similar to the ski- boarding pool (shown below) and exciting inflatable games and rides.

Another attraction for youngsters is sure to be the tempting choice of moderately-priced pizzas, calzones, heros, hot dogs, desserts, ice cream, snow cones, popcorn, cotton and soft drinks. All to be used "sparingly," as Sister Margaret Mary might have said.

More mature folks should be attracted to the fall plant sale run by the parish's MOM's organization, and the wide variey of wares at the Craft Fair booths on Dartmouth Street.

Attractions in high demand by ba variety of attendees will be Basketball Contests. the Teen Night Club, Respite Games, Night at the Races... accompanied by live music--"DJ all day and a live band all evening." Also in demand will be a guest appearance of world- famous Irish entertainer---Paddy Noonan--at the Beverage Booth manned by "Msgr. John's Knights."

All action will pause at 5 PM to make way for the beautiful, peaceful outdoor Sunday Mass---continuing as the No. 1 attraction of a most memorable day..

At 10 P.M. the winners in the annual "Big Bucks/Spirit Day" Sweepstakes will be announced to an alternately cheering and groaning audience. The goal of the promotion this year is TO HELP BUILD A NEW CHURCH ELEVATOR. Entrants have a chance of winning $25,000 or One of Five $5,000 prizes As You Help Saint Anne's Win $50,000 Towards the Design and Construction of a New Church Elevator, making our church and lower level accessible to all, especially the aging and those with disabilities. As many as five entrants may share a "Big Bucks" ticket.

Applications for sweepstakes tickets at $125 each may be obtained at Saint Anne's Rectory, 35 Dartmouth St. or via cut-out coupons in the parish weekly Bulletin. Non-parishioners are invited to participate. The prize levels are based on all 800 tickets having been sold. The levels will be adjusted proportionately downwards if the 800 level is not achieved.

In the weeks ahead, get ready to see some otherwise peaceful Spirit Day Committee members, outfitted in bright yellow (plastic look-alikes) construction hardhats, appearing outside Church on Sundays vigorously seeking more sales of Sweepstakes tickets with the promotion's optimistic by-words: "SEE YOU LATER, ELEVATOR!"
