Italian Poet Songwriter Salvatore Marchese speaks to classItalian Poet Songwriter Salvatore Marchese speaks to class On Wednesday, May 28, advanced Italian students gathered for the performance of Salvatore Marchese, an Italian poet, songwriter and composer, and elementary school teacher. The students were from the classes of Mrs. Brunetti and Mrs. Cardilicchia. They all enjoyed this cultural experience, as Mr. Marchese performed two songs he had composed and read several of his poems. He also answered questions about writing, composing and the Italian culture.

Salvatore Marchese was born in Canicatti, Sicily in 1976. Since 1990, he has performed his various songs on the piano. Mr. Marchese founded "Sicily Sings Festival" and organizes "Young Singers Festival." In September of 2000, he moved from Sicily to Milan to teach in public elementary schools and also in kindergarten for one year. To date, Salvatore Marchese has made a collection of famous Italian songs and has recorded non-published albums in Spanish. Mr. Marchese says that "His numerous trips will bring him closer to poetry, and to 'literature for children,' as a fable writer."

He performed two songs for the students and read a variety of poems in Italian from his poetry books called "Ritorno a Scuola" and "L'Arte e l'Artista." He also allowed for a few minutes for the students to ask questions in Italian. Many of his poems provided for interesting discussions the next day. The experience was wonderful and enriching to the Italian students who attended. The students were able to use their skill in the Italian language to comprehend what Mr. Marchese read, sang, and spoke. The lecture was an eye-opening experience, and as Italian students, we shall be fortunate if he comes back for an encore presentation. Grazie Signore Marchese and arrivederci.
