Save The Date For Tastings '08

Hannon Voices Opposition To Fare Increases
      Senator Kemp Hannon (R-Garden City) announced his opposition to fare increases proposed for the Long Island Rail Road. The proposed fare increase was announced by the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) at a meeting Wednesday and Senator Hannon has pledged to fight for the commuters of Long Island.

Senator Hannon Honors John D'argenzio
      Senator Kemp Hannon (R-6th S.D.) recently congratulated John D'Argenzio as the winner from St. Anne's School of Senator Hannon's 2008 "There Ought To Be A Law" contest. The annual program honors the ideas for New York State legislation, as conceived by local students. John's winning entry proposed: "It should be mandatory for children at the age of six to get blood tests.

Senator Hannon Announces Correction Officer Exam
      Senator Kemp Hannon (R-Garden City) has announced the New York State Department of Civil Service will offer a new Correction Officer examination on October 18, 2008. Applications must be postmarked no later than September 2, 2008. Candidates must be 21 years of age on or before the date of their appointment.

Library Hosts Up, Up, And Away For Children
      The Children's Room of The Garden City Public Library hosted a performance called "Mad Science Presents Up, Up, and Away" on Wednesday, July 23rd. This performance marked the fourth in the series Wednesday is Family Night this summer at the Library. Children and their families enjoyed watching and participating by making ordinary household items come to life and go up, up, and away.

There is a collection barrel at the Library for the public to contribute non-perishable items. According to Long Island Cares, Inc., hunger on Long Island is growing at an alarming rate.

      Our summer reading programs "Catch the Reading Bug" and "The Caterpillar Club" end on August 6th. Children who have completed 3 or 4 activities and won at least one prize have been invited to the Final shows! Teens Learn Italic Calligraphy At The Library
      Calligrapher Joanne Insinga taught Garden City teens the techniques of italic calligraphy on Monday, July 23rd. The young adult participants received a special calligrapher's pen to take home to continue to practice what they learned. Ms. Insinga is pictured demonstrating the special lettering style to Dana Aprigliano.
