Defensive driving courses are being conducted by the Automobile Club of NY in the Garden City office located at 229 Seventh St. The six-hour course allows participants to get the latest driving information from AAA-certified instructors, a 10 percent discount on collision and liability insurance and a reduction of up to four points from driver's license. One hour lunch break on all-day sessions. The cost is $35 for AAA members; $45 nonmembers ($25 senior discount days members 55+*; $25 young driver discount days members 16 to 24**). On July 21, someone smashed the window of a Toyota Corolla at the Stewart Manor train station in an attempt to enter the car, with a total damage of $500... PO Bandl arrested a 19-year-old Bellerose male whom he stopped for driving on the wrong side of the road on New Hyde Park Road, on July 18. The teen was arrested for alleged DWI (.11%), for the possession of marijuana, unlicensed operation, no insurance and for a lane violation... Someone took a Zenburano Gary Fisher women's bike valued at $450 from the side yard of a Weyford Terrace residence on July 18 in the afternoon... On July 19, a 34-year-old Far Rockaway woman was arrested for allegedly taking a $278 BCBG blazer at Lord And Taylor... Between am and 12:30 PM, someone took a $250 Mongoose bike and its lock from in front of Keyfood at Seventh Street... Detective Madden, after an investigation, arrested a 16-year-old GC male for stealing a light fixture from a Meadow Street residence on July 7... On July 18 , a Garden City home was found ransacked, although nothing was found missing at the time... Between July 15 and 16, someone broke the lock on a Ford Explorer parked at the Stewart Manor train station and stole a CD player, water shoes, and fish supplies from the car... On July 17 , someone stole a 26" hybrid bike valued at $400 that was locked to a tree at Supreme Court Drive near the courthouse... PO Dallolio arrested a 20-year-old GC male for alleged DWI at the scene of a 2-car accident at Franklin Avenue/Eleventh Street on July 17 at 1 am. The other driver was taken to Winthrop Hospital for head pain... Police are investigating a robbery that occurred at the County Life Press station on July 11, between 3:30 and 3:45 pm. It seems that a 17-year-old male victim was allegedly pushed, punched and kicked by 5 males who had approached him while he was riding his bike there. They also took his mountain bike, $60, and Samsung cell phone...

FD extricated the victim in a car accident at Franklin Avenue on July 17... Worn insulation and a short circuit occurred at a Sackville Road house on July 18... A burning odor was caused by an overheated steamer in the downstairs bathroom at a Hampton Road house, on July 19... Natural ventilation was used to clear smoke from a pizza burning in a microwave on July 20 at South Avenue, Adelphi University... A victim was removed from a car involved in a 2-car accident at Franklin Avenue/Stewart Avenue, on July 20... The occupant of a New Hyde Park residence, who was locked out, was assisted by firemen on July 22. Entry was made though a first floor window...That's all this week. G. T.
