Library Sponsors Summer Food Drive
The Garden City Public Library in cooperation with Long Island Cares Inc. / The Harry Chapin Food Bank is sponsoring a Summer Food Drive. There is a collection barrel at the Library for the public to contribute non-perishable items. According to Long Island Cares, Inc., hunger on Long Island is growing at an alarming rate. An estimated 259,000 Long Island residents - including nearly 93,000 children and 39,000 seniors - are hungry.
Canned goods, dry goods, and snack foods can be contributed. Personal care items, baby care products, laundry detergent, cleaning products, and paper products are also among the most needed items. The donations collected are being distributed to food pantries, senior and children's day care centers, soup kitchens and shelters on Long Island. For more information about Long Island Cares, Inc. and The Harry Chapin Food Bank, visit www.licares.org. Please bring a non-perishable donation on your next visit to the Library.
