Paddy Noonan Lends Talent To "Spirit Day"
Since the 1960's, the name Paddy Noonan has been synonymous with great Irish music. This accomplished accordionist has established a reputation for delighting audiences all around the globe, not only with his own talents, but also as director and promoter of top class Irish entertainers.
At present a resident of Garden City, he was one of the first professional entertainers to draw raves from parishioners in Saint Anne's McCloskey Auditorium. Paddy's work as a pioneer in the field of Irish music led to his founding of Rego Irish Records. It has since become the largest importer and manufacturer of Irish music in America and Canada.
He is proud to join with Saint Anne's "Spirit Day, 2008" in the effort to raise funds to build a new church elevator which will help welcome many older or disabled parishioners and their friends who had been turned away by the obstacle of coping with steep stairways.
Paddy and his music will hold sway at the "Spirit Day" Beverage truck, as ever manned by the most hospitable "Msgr. John's Knights" (Msgr. John C Seidenschwang, Knights of Columbus). During the day, the Knights will join with Paddy Noonan in announcing a future major benefit entertainment in McCloskey Auditorium.
The proposed elevator is designed to transport people only, not freight. With a capacity of 1400 pounds, it is fully adequate for carrying several adults and a wheelchair. To access the elevator, persons can enter the McCloskey Auditorium doors on Dartmouth Street near the handicapped parking spaces. They can ride it up one level in the Church and exit into the Liturgical Ministers Room or down one level and exit into the lobby outside McCloskey Auditorium. The elevator will be fully equipped with phone and fire alarm systems.
The "Spirit Day/Big Bucks" Sweepstakes promotion, reported in the Saint Anne's Monthly Bulletin, in a major direct-mail drop to parishioners and in the local press, urged parishioners and friends:
Help Us Build a New Church Elevator, Win $25,000 or One of Five $5,000 prizes." As You Help Saint Anne's offer $50,000 Towards the Design and Construction of a New Elevator. Make Our Church and Lower Level Accessible to All, Especially the Aging and Those With Disabilities."
All prizes will be awarded if all 800 tickets are sold! If fewer than 800 tickets are sold, the prize pool will be 50% of the total amount raised with the prize drawing and the funding of the er reduced proportionally.
