GCHS Graduate Performs Comedy
      Matthew Bryan, a Garden City High School Class of 1997 graduate, will be performing stand-up comedy in the Joker's Wild Show at Broadway Comedy Club on Friday, July 18th at 7:30 pm. Third Track Committee Hearing

Adelphi Breast Cancer Program Receives Grant
      New York State Senator Kemp Hannon has secured a $27,000 legislative grant for the Adelphi Breast Cancer Program in support of its Sisters United in Health/Hermanas Unidas en la Salud project. Sisters United in Health, established in 2002, is a special program for Long Island Latina, African American and other minority women.

Retiring Garden City Library Director Honored
      Garden City Public Library Director Alan Roeckel retired June 21st after working more than three decades at The Garden City Library. Library staff, former employees and retirees joined with the Library Board of Trustees and village officials to honor Mr. Roeckel at a retirement dinner on June 26th. Mr. Roeckel became the director of the Library in 1987.

News From The Children's Room Summer Programs and Prizes
      Prizes and more Prizes! That's what is happening in the Children's Room! In addition to the children winning prizes for completing activities for the Summer Reading Club, the first guessing game winners were selected. There were 88 lollipops in the guessing jar. Both George Arianas and Brian Carrs guessed 90 and Paul Varano guessed 86. The three winners split the prize.

Depression-Era Glass Exhibit
      Rosemary Trietsch of the National Depression Glass Association and columnist for "Antique Week" newspaper will exhibit "Depression-era Glass" until July 30 at the Garden City Public Library. Visitors can see "figural" American glassware which was machine produced from the mid 1920s- 30s.

      Adelphi University congratulates School of Business Professor Jiang Zhang, one of twelve recipients of the Bender Research Fellowship Award for Best Paper this year. Former Cathedral Chorister Performs
      Maria Zieher, a graduated member of the Cathedral of the Incarnation's Girls Choir has auditioned and been cast in the role of Annina in the opera LaTraviata by Verdi to be performed by the famed Emerald City Opera Artist Institute of Steam Boat Springs, Colorado. The Opera Artist Institute is an intensive 3 week program for aspiring singers designed to advance the artform of opera.

Nursery Helps Breast Cancer Program
      Hicks Nurseries in Westbury presented a check for $1300 to Meghan's Pansies, a special fund of the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program that educates young women and men about breast cancer. The fund is named for Meghan Halloran, a Garden City woman who succumbed to breast cancer in 2000 at age 31.

      Long Island Blood Services will hold a blood drive at The Garden City Public Library on Monday, July 28th from 3PM to 8:30 PM. The bus mobile will be parked at 60 Seventh Street, outside the Library. Cholesterol testing will be done at the same time as blood donation and results will be mailed to the donor's home.

Stewart Consort Debuts At Cathedral
      Sunday, June 29 was the premier of the Stewart Consort at the 10 a.m. Mass at the Cathedral of the Incarnation. The Consort is a small ensemble that is the brain child of Matthew Tamke, one of its members. It was fashioned after a group Matt belonged to while singing at Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland. Matt auditioned for that select choir and sang at Christ Church for a year.
