The State of New York has raised the surcharges which they add on to fines assessed by the Court for most Violations of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law, both on moving and parking violations.

Effective July 1, 2008 the current $55.00 per summons surcharge is raised to $65.00 and effective August 1, 2008, the new $65.00 surcharge will be raised to $85.00.

The increased surcharges are in addition to the fine set by the Court for the violation. These surcharges are not waive-able and are transmitted directly to the State of New York.

For example:

A local fine of $100.00 with the new NYS surcharges and will now be $165.00 on July 1st and will be $185.00 on August 1st, 2008.
