The GCAA 9 year old Minor league division completed their play-offs on June 21st with the Phillies winning the championship game against the Mets by the score of 5-2. This year's play-offs consisted of exciting games that showed the improvement all the boys made during the regular season. The pitching was strong and the hitting was clutch. The play-offs were highlighted by two extra inning games; walk off base hits and outstanding performances by several players. The Cubs, Mets, Marlin's, D-backs, Rays, Yankees, Orioles and Angels all played first round games. In the second round, on Saturday June 14th, the Pirates edged the D-Backs, the Phillies nipped the Yankees, the A's got by the Rays and the Mets outlasted the Padres in eight innings. All the winners moved on to the semifinals. In the semifinals, on the night of June 17th, the weather was perfect for baseball and the Mets and Pirates hooked up in a game that went 7 innings, with the Mets winning by one run. It was a contest that both teams really deserved to win. The Phillies took care of the A's on the same night setting up the Mets-Phillies championship game. In the championship game the Phillies played flawless defense, got good pitching and some timely extra base hits. The Mets kept pace with the Phillies and tried to mount a rally in the last inning but fell short. Congratulations to all the boys and their coaches for a successful Minor league season.
